I'm looking to upgrade my slim ps3's HDD, but am not sure which ones are reliable. I'm willing to go up to about $70 max, and am currently looking at these two:
What do you guys think?
While the scorpio blacks seem really nice, I hear that 7200s have overheat the PS3. I'm afraid something might happen. Has anything like that happened to you?
I don't even know where that started.
7200RPM Hard Disks do consume a little more power and generate a little more heat, but they still respect the maximum power draw of the SATA standard. Tom's Hardware benchmarked some 7200RPM hard disks and they found out that the 7200RPMs draw only 3.3W max. That's nothing compared to the other power consuming and heat generating components of the PS3.
I ordered the WD Blue 500 GB Mobile Hard Drive and see the photo I posted there (link below) - that is how the hard drive arrived from Amazon, but I have not had any problems with it in the 5 months that I have used it in my PS3
Go with the biggest capacity you can afford (it needs to be 9.5mm tall so keep that in mind)
