Update 4.25 XMB Performance

9 replies 361 views Edited Sep 14, 2012
Just wondering, if anyone else noticed that the XMB doesn't seem to load as many thumbnails when.scrolling through the different galleries (photo/video). Doesnt seem to keep as many in memory. Would make sense if they did adjust it, but its more distracting.

Hmm that's weird. But then again it hasn't affected me since I have an SSD in my PS3, so I remain unaffected by it since everything seems to load instantly in the XMB. :smileytongue:

Wow, that's cool. I need one of those. Seems to be more noticeable when there are more than 30 or so items in the folder. It seems to clear them and it has to reload images as you scroll up and down. Not too big a deal, but you'd think if my phone can load 3 times as many thumbnails without reloading you'd think my PS3 could do it :smileywink:

Very true, I don't get why back then Sony gloated about 8 cores in the PS3, I don't see anything load quickly. Maybe 7 cores are dedicated to security and 1 core dedicated to everything else (sarcasm).

Not having any issues here...... I have close to 150 HD movies and the preview thumbnails play just fine for me, I dont have any photos on my PS3 so I cant comment on that. I dont really look at trophies so I cant say anything about that either

I have a 500Gb hdd from 2007

Logic, who would've thought eh? Oh wait.... No one thinks anymore.

Ive noticed trophies taking a long time to synch also but it started before this update. I think the only thing in the last update was the cloud storage I could be wrong though.

Yes maybe this was between the optional update that I don't think I did. The video thumbnails load fine, its just if you scroll up and down through them you can see them reload below and above. I thought it used to load them all once you scrolled through your list once, then scrolling back up you wouldn't see any loading of thumbnails, they were all in Memory, but maybe I'm just spoiled from how my phone handles them, and its always been this way?. To avoid this I might just put less in each folder. On videos its only holding a page at a time in memory, it seems. Well thanks for all your comments. This thread probably is not much of a usefull observation on my part, but I appreciate the incite. Maybe a faster hard drive might be an idea, an SSD, like ToxicBerserker has :smileyhappy:
