This isn't that big of a blow to me, mainly because my PS3 started acting up (Shutting off randomly) a few days ago. The second time this happened the system felt hot but I knew it shutting off at that temperature wasn't normal, so I followed my gut and backed up my data onto my external hard drive. 3 or 4 days later (About an hour ago), it won't turn on. After checking it a few minutes later, it blinks a yellow light and all I can say is, "Well...F--"

Just hope I can sort this all out without data loss mainly.

I'm wondering if anybody else has had the problem I'm having.  I have been getting intermittent YLOD's.  My PS3 will stop working with the red blinking lights.  Try to restart it and I'll get the YLOD.  Sometimes it will start again and work for hours without a problem just by attempting multiple restarts and sometimes it will start and stop again.  This has happened while the machine is hot or after it has cooled down.  There really is no rhyme or reason to it.  Any help would be much appreciated.

My 60 gb was hit with the YLOD last November and I sent it in and got a refurb back, same model.  Just yesterday, the refurb was hit with the YLOD.  This is twice now.  I am really pissed!!!  I don't think I will be playing any more PS3.  I am very disappointed in Sony.

Sorry to hear that durango... I sent mine in to get a refurb in May, and my concern is getting YLOD again.

Were there any changes to your usage of the system after your got the refurb. to try to prevent it from happening again?

For me, I am placing my PS3 horizontally vs. vertically this time.

I am concerned that there might actually be nothing we can do to prevent YLOD.

And obviously, I keep my PS3 dust free outside and well ventilated.
