Universal Plug n Play.

With PS3 online it basically means that all ps3's interact with eachother flawlessly when its enabled.

That's why when your UPnP isn't working sometimes mics won't work right, or you can connect to certain friends.

it's universal plug and play. It's basically a protocol for automatically configuring network devices. A common usage is for automatic port forwarding.
