Re: New PS3 Slim model pictures leaked... Top loading drive

Its the eject button that bothers me..... Im thinking its going to be a flip top.

But because we're letting imaginations still run wild until we get Official announcements....... Would it be too far off the wagon to say that the drive actually RISES from the unit?

To doesnt look to have any direct mechanism to be a traditional flip top, and if it was a sliding top it would probably be a mechanical slide mechanism or a simple "pop lock".

I definitely buying this when it releases and getting rid of my 80Gb. I like the looks of it, matches my Bose stereo system very well

I tend to agree, examining it seems that the hinge for the drive would be in the middle of the system, and the door swings up and to the left....

Artist rendering based on blurry pics

This artist rendering seems to be missing a power button, I think insteed of the blue and green leds, there is a power button there with a single red led.

I didn't see any wifi or HD indicators on the original photo (but they were blurry), but I doubt the wifi indicator is making a return since it was removed from the 3000 model.

Also it isn't clear that the HDD plugs into the front of the unit (based on the original photo). It could just as easily plug into the right side of the machine (an angle not yet seen).

It looks ugly, in my opinion. I think the disc cover moving to the left is weird. It would have looked better if it looked more like the PS2 slim. I wonder how much power it uses.

Some people on NeoGaf believe there wasn't a dye shrink in this model so the power is about the same as the Slim 3000.

We really won't know for sure about anything, including how the drive door works until the unit is being sold.

if it slides to the left that would definately be different, i think that is what it is going to do because the left peice is lower allowing the other peice to slide over it.

I think a smooth top with a piece lifting up was more of what i was thinking in terms of looks but again i would have to see it in person.

On the other hand the drive door could just be a little thicker than the rest of the unit. I have never seen a simular device that uses a sliding door.

I think the fact that the system does have an eject button on the front IMO means that the door opens up, and not slide over...

I think it does slide because the left side is lower allowing room for the right side to slide over i see what you are saying but if that was the case then i dont think it would look how it does maybe the eject button unlocks it allowing it to slide.
