Taking 45 seconds to initially open is pretty annoying. I'm weary of people claiming it runs smoothly. My experience isn't the same. If you're moving from one menu to the next in order to reach deeper options (ie: From main menu --> Games --> PS+ --> Free Games), it lags while simply moving down the left-hand menu to select different options, as the images for each option attempt to load as you scroll past them.

The search feature is the same way. After you select a letter, you have to wait a second or two for the new set of letters to load in before you can select a new letter. With a full onscreen keyboard the user could go straight from one letter to the next, with zero delay.

The layout of the new store is fantastic, but the performance needs an improvement.

Some people have said the new Store is more dependent on your network connection more than before which is why it lags for some people and smooth as silk for others.... I now have a Gigabit connection with less than 1ms ping and nearly zero jitter....

While it does take an unnecessary amount of startup time, that I can agree with.... but its smooth for me when browsing.

Does having a good router help to? Smiley Happy

Of course it does..... having excellent equipment helps A TON with overall internet quality.

I used to run a Linksys router with DD-WRT and it has served me well for about 3 years..... But being sick and tired of power cycling my network every other week is tedious so I went with a more professional networking equipment... especially now that I have Gigabit internet, I want to be able to have THE BEST possible experience. 2 months now and i've yet to experience any sort of need to power cycle my equipment.

Thanks for the response! Smiley Happy

I have a D-Link router and I think it's no good. It's supposed to be a good router because apparantly it won all of these awards but It's not a good router.

This is the one I currently use:

http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DIR-655-Extreme-N-Gigabit-Wireless/dp/B000LIFB7S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid...

I need to buy a new router. Are there any in particular you recommend? Is an Asus router maybe good?

Any router is decent.... the defining thing about routers is if they can use custom firmware, which pretty much "unlocks" the limitations the manufacturer designs into them.

Like Cisco/Linksys routers that have DD-WRT firmware. I have ran a Linksys routers for close to 10 years and loved every one of them...

Flash them with DD-WRT and you get a MUCH better and more reliable connection, without having to resort to power cycling as often or at all.

I can't recommend what I have, because 1) its expensive, server grade router with massive expadability and 2) very technical to setup, I actually had to hire my friend whose an IT specialist to help me set it up.

I recommend the newest line of Linksys/Cisco routers if at all possible. Usually ones that are more gaming forcused.

You can also buy your own modem, which comes with many benefits, two of which are 1) your ISP will not throttle your connection as they do with using their leased routers 2)You'll have a MUCH more reliable connection outright because you'd be getting 100% and in some cases MORE bandwidth than what you're paying for.

I also have a server grade modem because my girlfriend's company allows us to have 2 Gigabit lines, one for her work computers, the other for the rest of my house. So we use their modem for it.

A good modem to go with are Arris(spelling?) modems and the higher dollar Motorola Modems as some are Gateways which are modem and routers all in one box....

The one requirement is that the modems have to be DOCSIS 3.0 compatible for most networks, or so I'm told.

The best part about the new store is that you don't really need it anymore. You can use the webstore for absolutely everything. Purchase or mark content as yours to get it into your Download list and then fill the PS3/PSV download queue with that sweet new function. Your consoles will automatically download whatever you want, you can ignore the PS3 store completely.

I don't have any problems getting my downloads from the new store. It loads pretty quick for me. The search feature could be better, but it still does the job. I liked the layout of the old store better, but I'm getting used to this one. The new store has a more modern, tiled feel to it that has unfortunately gained a lot of popularity because of smartphones and windows 8. As for performance, I don't have any problems beside tweaking the search a little bit.

This is somewhat related to the new store but it also applies to the old store as well.I really don't like how there's all these themes with chicks in bikinis and other ridiculous suggestive themes, its like do people really buy those? Seriously they must because like every week it seems like there's 5 more! And they all cost like 1-3$ for basically just having a picture of a girl in a bikini as your background.
When you could just like go to Google images and download a picture for free..
Also how easy is it to get your theme to Sony and then Sony to put it on the store? because some of the themes are so awful and have poor quality.

@greyghost, practically 90% of my full friends list has issues with the playstation store being awful now(mainly load times and freezing complaints), so you can speak for yourself of course. But there's lot of people having a lot of issues with this new store.
The old store was never this terrible for me.
I wouldn't really care at all about the new layout or even the load times though if they could consistently update the ps store in the *early morning* on Tuesday at the same time every week.

And like anything that requires an internet connection is the caveat of "Online Experience may vary"

It's not because we have crappy Internet. Thinking on it, I would say that your proximity to the Ps store servers is the biggest factor. Not download speeds.
