The PSVita will be able to download PS2 titles?

4 replies 19 views Edited Sep 10, 2011

If you've been on the internet, you may have heard about the PSVita being able to download PS2 games along with its library of PS1 Classics and PSP titles.
Mr. Hideo Kojima has claimed to be working on transferring PS2 titles to Vita.
And some screenshots have been circulating around the interweb.

Has it been officialy confirmed by Sony yet??

If its true, imagine playing the massive PS2 library wherever you are.
Silent Hill 2, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone, Ico, God of War, Sly Cooper, etc.

you guys think its true?
the screens look unusual.
and size would be an issue.

I have not heard that the PSV will be able to play PS2 games and neither has anyone else. it has not been announced by Sony. What you are seeing the picture is an artists impression of a PSV screen. It is probably one of many that may or may not reflect the finla look of the PSV interface. During the development process many such screens are made in order to sell or explore an idea between the many departments of a company that are researching and eveloping such a device. I expect mock up screens flew backwards and forwards between the many worldwide Sony R&D departments and also game developers, sometimes the artist may have overlooked details like if the games were actually availabe for the unit.

I have seen many such screens that people have locked onto for leaked details (such as the L3 button popping up in a Modnation mockup), but as I have always said, until it is released we have no proof just artists impressions.

As to your reference to Hideo Kojima, what he has said is that he is looking into porting or recoding a PS2 for the PSV, that will make it a PSV game not a PS2 game. In the process he will probably add many things to the game that will take advantage of the PSVs abilities, like with one of his ports to the PS3 he made the graphics HD.

No you will only be allowed to play PS Vita titles, PSP, miniS and PSOne classics, PS3 titles are programmed for the PS3. The PSP and PSOne will eb emulated by the PSV.

Besides that fact, the Vita has a 1 GHz CPU and 200 MHz GPU.  The PS3 has a 3.2 GHz CPU and 500 MHz GPU.  I doubt the Vita will be able to play PS3 games, unless they are adapted for it, like how Hideo Kojima showed a working version of MGS 4 on the Vita which was adapted for the Vita.
