I have been giving this advice out to alot of poeple all week.  Ok You hit the PS buttion and PS3 starts but a blank screen, Or Controller wont start the system but touching the power on buttion in the front starts the PS3 but a blank screen. Ok 1st Leave or put the system in Stand By mode (Solid Red Light). 2nd Put your finger on the touch power buttion to turn the system on BUT hold it there untill you hear 3 beeps. 1St Beeps says the system has started up, then the other 2 quick beeps says the system has restored the settings back to the default manufactory settings. Once you hear the 3 beeps remove your finger. Restoring the settings that way have NO AFFECT on your PS3's porfile, save game, or PSN for online. 90% of time poeple told me that it worked. Try this b4 calling Sony. If worse comes to Worse and it don't help then call them to have it repaired. Hope this helps alot of people. Sincerly, Dan

we know. and it should work alot more than 90%. If it doesnt work there's an actual problem with your hardware

I suspect that a significant percentage of the systems sent in to Sony only need a reset and/or a quick trip to the recovery menu.

Every now and then, you see someone posting about how quick Sony sent back their PS3 (not a refurbed), and that Sony has great service.  I suspect that Sony does a quick reset and a 5-minute check out.  If everything is working, back out it goes!

Isn't that for resetting the DISPLAY SETTINGS? I thought that was common knowledge

After I hold the button down and get to the screen, what do you select to get rid of the black screen, because I tried restoring the default settings and it didn't work.
