The Fight to Get MGS PO to work in US Continues...

40 replies 729 views Edited Sep 9, 2012

Some people may consider me annoying or just selfish. I really don't care. I got my Vita with intentions of playing certain games on it. I don't care if you like it or not but, I really enoyed Metal Gear Portable Ops and after rebuying it on the PSN store just to find out it doesn't work on the Vita really **bleep** me off. I could deal with the $10 wasted but, with the lack of games on teh Vita, It's time for Sony to step it up on the support of the PSP games.

I am one guy and my voice doesn't make much of a difference but, didn't feel like just stting on my hands. So I sent Sony an email requesting Metal Gear Portable Ops to work in the U.S. This is what I got in return... I also felt appropriate to not include the name of the representative that helped me out cause either way there just speaking on behalf of SCEA

"Hello Shady,

Thank you for contacting PlayStation® Technical Support. My name is ----, your PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita) specialist. I am more than happy to assist you today with your questions regarding the games compatible with the PS Vita™.

Currently some PSP® and PlayStation®Minis are available for the PS Vita™. I have provided a link with a list of PSP® and Minis available currently for the PS Vita. More titles will be available at a later time, please keep an eye on the link below for further information.

Also, I recommend contacting the publisher of the game, <Konami>, they will be able to provide you with more information regarding the release of Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops to the Sony Entertainment Network Store. I have provided their contact information below.

Konami
310-220-8330 or 310-220-8331
www.konami.com

I do apologize I was unable to give you specific information, but keep in mind the SONY Entertainment Network Store undergoes maintenance and receives updated material on Tuesdays. Please continue to check the Sony Entertainment Network Store periodically.

You can also use this link to track upcoming game releases:

Thank you for your time and allowing me to assist you with your Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops inquiry."

Basically, the default response for the most part and there basically telling me to blame Konami. I know this game work in Europe. Check Out Video...

Now I know this probably pointless and a lot people will not care but, I feel that if I can make Sony aware of one game then who is to say we can't make them aware of more? At this point I don't know if I should point the finger at Sony or Konami but, the bottom line is I want this game to be playable on my Vita. It was my favortie PSP games and although it won't save the Vita I feel that pushing Sony to get some PSP games on the Vita is good for us.

I'm against the hacking of the console but, with a lack of Vita games out there and a lack of UMD support and lack of PSP games on the PSN market. I can't blame some guys for trying to find ways to mess with there Vita's. I'm not trying to be an outlaw here, I'm just trying to play a game on my Vita that I now bought twice.

Actually I called Sony to confirm and they told it did work so I went ahead and bought. I later called in again and they told me it didn't. So obviously the lady on the line confused it for MGS Peace Walker. Next, you actualyl wrong this is one teh better titles on the PSP titles to be released. Even IGN gave it a 9.

I personally really enjoyed this game and once again, The Vita doesn't have enougth to keep my happy right now. I don't think it's a big deal to ask for this particular title when it works in Europe. If you can throw in games like the complete Metal Slug Anthology then I think Metal Gear Portable Ops wouldn't be too much to ask for.

Hold on... what do you mean "it doesn't work"? Does it... freeze when you try to run it? Give you an error? Not copy to the system completely? I hate it when people just say that it doesn't work.

The console doesn't read it at all. You can't even put it on the Vita. After some reserach, i found thats it's also been been well documneted to not be compatible. This thread is basically made to raise some awareness. Hopefully SCEA will look into this next update.

Raise awareness to who?
Most who frequent this board are aware of its "BC" shortcomings.
As Sony doesn't read the forums.

Even when it's in "bubble" form? Like just-downloaded-and-ready-to-install? Meaning, you did NOT install it to your PS3, right?

Look your trying to see if this is an error made by me and it's not. It's been well documented that it doesn't work the Vita. Cheapassgamer.com has a link that (I should've checked earlier) and it's not working. This is not a debate on whether or not teh game works, it's getting it to work. It's not compatible in the US and theres no isntalling PSP games on your PS3

It does not show up on the vita at all when hooked to the ps3. No download info. I am waiting on this one too.If thay ever put it on they will make 3 sales.MGS PO,MGS PW,and HD collection. I am not buying any of them untill I can play them again in order all at once. And then MGS4 ps3 again. That would be a great story and game.Come on sony put it there and we will spend.

I'm trying to help you. Believe it or not, but there are a lot of kids on here that don't know how the process works. And yes, you can install PSP games on the PS3. Not to play, but I think you had to do that before you could copy them to the PSP originally.

You download the PSP game. Once finished, it appears as a "bubble" below your game disc icon. You click on that with X and it says "Installing". Once "installed" then it is possible to keep it stored on your PS3 in a PSP games category. You then highlight that particular game and hit Triangle, then Copy in order to copy it to the PSP.

The other day I tried this with Peace Walker without installing to the PS3 and it worked... but it took twice as long, so it's obviously doing it in the background anyway. Must be some sort of extraction or conversion process before the game can work on the PSP.
