Re: TO SONY: DEACTIVATING PSN ACCOUNTS ON DEAD PS3 SYSTEMS

Oct 9, 2009

BACK ON TOPIC:

Sony will deactivate a dead system. All you have to do is call. When my 60GB crapped out, I purchased an 80GB the next day and obviously I couldn't access the psn video section so I called up Sony and they deactivated the 60, and I was good to go.

Okay. Doesn't change the fact that games that belong to the same user can run simultaneously on multiple PS3s with widely varying IPs. That and I find the statement "solely for Your personal, private, non-transferable, non-commercial, limited use on a limited number of activated PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system" not clearly against what I'm doing. After all, my sharing is both personal and private, and it is not commercial. I also find 'non-transferable' vague since it seems to me the statement before it is saying you can transfer to whoever is under your legal gaurdianship. In any case, good to know this since I was under a misconception. I kind of find it funny that three of you ran over here to tell me though, though I suppose it is nice. Thanks.

Ah, that's good to know. Thanks SandSkorpion. Do tell me though, what info do you need to give them for them to deactivate?

They did the same for me.  I sent in my YLOD system and when I got the refurbished system I couldn't download any of my previously purchased games because there were already 5 PS3's activated.  After calling them they DID deactivate my console as far as VIDEOS go because I believe only one console can be activated.  They said that they would submit a request to see if they would deactivate the console for games.  I got an email saying that my YLOD consoles was deactivated but I'm not sure if it was only for VIDEO or also for GAMES.  I need to check that.

Unruly cat, you are 100% correct, but The "omggamesharingisillegal!-armchairlawyers" here can't be convinced though. Call Sony, they can deactivate accounts, but you have to really push them to get them to do it.

I've game shared with my friends since launch, admitted it here, and never even been warned, much less banned. The posters here will certainly demonize you for it, but that's the full extent of the trouble you'll get into. When they do, just link here to where Tretton explains it as a selling point of the system http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2006/10/trettonday_conc/.

I have a question some of you might be able to answer for me. I have played a game of mine at my brothers house before(a ownloaded one). When i left though i deleted the game and deleted the my user off of his system. My question is, is my user name still activated on his system? Also if it is, how do i deactivated just my username from his system?

Thanks.

It is still activated on his system.  Log back into your account on his ps3 and deactivate under account management.

They are so ridiculously strict about it nowadays.  The only thing you'll need when you call is your name and phone number.  As long as you sent a ps3 into them to get serviced and it was exchanged instead of repaired, then and only then will they entertain the smallest thought of deactivating your account.  All I can say is, Good Luck!

I got to thinking last night about the person who said they had three systems die on the YLOD and how Soyn support would not help. Why can't Sony implement on the PSN a way to manage your account. We should be able to through the PSN de-activate systems from our account by being able to check a box and then remove.
