Sony Online Pass

7 replies 334 views Edited Nov 14, 2012

First off let me start this by saying I am a Sony Fan. I have been a Sony fan for years, they have always had talent to outdo Microsoft until of course the moment when they started things like the online pass, and things started becoming more about the money and less about the fans.

(*)) Sony lets go back:

Once you had FREE ONLINE. Microsoft you had to pay to play online.    That’s one advantage you had over Microsoft was Free Online.

(*)) Now:

We not only pay 63.00 for a new game with the online pass but now if we buy a used game have to pay an additional 10.00 to play online.

(*)) Sony why are you pulling Microsoft moves?

The third party publishers started this trend. Maybe you should fact check and then come back.
Gaming as an industry has always been about money. You think they spend pain-staking hours building these games because they think its fun?

Online passes protect publishers from the used game market and I'd say they need it with the way games sales have dropped over the past few years.

If they can't make money, they won't make games.

The online pass was instilled by PUBLISHERS. Because its the Publishers who make the payments to developers, and they also supply the servers for online play, they also facilitate production from distributors...... And only one publisher is doing this so far.... EA and its developers

It takes a MASSIVE amount of money to keep a data center running every month.

Just google/youtube Google, Microsoft, or whatever other large corporation's data center and you'll see how much it costs to run them.

They LOSE money TWICE without an online pass..... 1) they do not see ANY profit from used games sales 2) They do not get paid from the new user to subsidize server maintenance.

If they can at least mitigate ONE, then they can deal with used game sales

Online is still free you fool. Can you play Black Ops 2 online without paying? If you buy games new like intended you'll never encounter this problem. Sony's online pass is only on their first-party games, and any games that also have it was on the decision of the publisher who put it out there to begin with. And if you buy it used do you usually pay the full $60 price? If you include whatever you payed for the used game and combined it with the online pass cost is it still cheaper then $60? If so stop whining about the price.

It is NOT SONY.

Just EA published games do this so far. Sony has NOTHING to do with this.

If you know more than us, please, I encourage you to enlighten us on something we don't know.

Buy smart.

Know the price of your online pass BEFORE buying a used game. That way you can factor in the price and work out if it's worth it or not.
