Sony Liverpool closed

19 replies 119 views Edited Aug 22, 2012

This is certainly surprising.

Sony Liverpool, the Wipeout developer has been closed by Sony. This studio has been open since 1984 when it was originally called Psygnosis where it made notable titles like Shadow of the Beast and Lemmings.

It may be quite a while before we see any more Wipeout games, if at all Smiley Sad

We'll always have Colony Wars.

Sony and Psygnosis always has a unusual relationship. After being purchased by Sony, they still made a N64 version of Wipeout. Also Colony Wars 3 and Wipeout on the PS2 were not published by Sony.

Hopefully Sony will still publish titles with these established IPs...

Im not surprised by it, they said  alot  of  publishers are going to close and alot them wont sit well  with  the fans of franchises.  Alot of devs  now should get   try to get way to just give them ip and go  3rd party with nothing but the name of the company and never do a 100% sale of the company.

Apparently Sony Liverpool was working on two PS4 projects, a Wipeout game and a Splinter Cell type game. Apparently both projects have been canceled...

I just heard this myself.  Very sad.

I remember the days before Sony when Psygnosis was an Amiga development House.

They published games that were light years ahead of their time back then.

I guess my dream of a Shadow of The Beast remake is now truly dead.

Thats terrible..... aside from Ace Combat, Wipeout was one of the games that attracted me to the PS1..... such a shame.... And when I first played Colony Wars, I spent hours and hours on end playing that game.

Thats one thing we haven't seen this generation.... A good Space combat oriented game.

Colony Wars would do pretty well here.

Such a shame

Here is a good article about Colony Wars, and possible reasons why it won't be resurrected:
