Emulating a PS2 takes quite a bit of processing power, I know that much.

Does anyone know the processor's exact specs? I know it's quadcore, but what's the processing power per core?

Not necessarily. Emulators only take a 'bit of processing power' because of how poorly they emulate the old hardware. It's most likely a lot easier for Sony to produce a much more efficient emulator for their own prior hardware, than it was for example for the people who produced pcsx2.

We'll just have to see what they do.

I do wonder about battery life now though. Read somewhere that the "3-5 hours of gaming" was with everything OFF (Wifi/3G, Default brightness and volume).

Taken from the Japanese press release:

"< Reference: About Duration of the Battery>

Game: Approx. 3~5 hours

Video: Approx. 5 hours

Music (in stand-by mode): Approx. 9 hours

* Screen brightness default setting, Bluetooth feature off, headphones used

* Game, when not using the network

* The duration may change depending on the brightness of the screen, what content being played and if

the network (3G/Wi-Fi) feature is being used or not"

@CaptainHuggyface didn't the 3DS from nintendo have the same specs of battery life? I do know at least from what people said it can last 8 hours with the 3d off.  even though nintendo did say last I checked it was 3 to 5 hours.

this is why I think you maybe able to pull more life out of the ps vita.

Have to call B>S here, They already confirmed final fantasy x for the Vita. Last I Heard that was a ps 2 game.  Some of the games look as good as ps3. Ps2 Classics CAN and WILL come to the Vita.

Thats called a port though, its not emulating the game. Big difference

Yeah, I can pull 8-9 hours if I put the settings right. And if I buy the power grip from Nyko, total of 15+ hours.

So if I get a Vita, I might just get that external battery. Just to help gaming a bit.

Well that's not too surprising. Maybe they had to work things out, and by the time they do, the Vita will launch here.

Well Japans launch has already happened and they were not supported. They are hoping to have the emulator ready for the US launch, we will see.
