Re: Sony Confirms Vita Won’t Support PS1, Turbo Grafx Games at Launch

They already are attempting to do just that (Which is absolutely awesome)

I plan to get the God of War complete series (1,2,3, maybe others inbetween some other time.

Also the Sly series, and if You haven't noticed, they have put PS2 classics on the PSN, and there is still time to evolve, with the Vita being out or nearly being out in other parts of the world, but not in the US yet.

Stay ballsy, my friends.

This is really unfortunate. I hope that Sony remedies this situation soon.

I find it really strange when people argue: "Who would want to play PS1 games on their Vita when they can play Vita games?" That's like saying "Who would want to listen to music made before the year 2000, when you can listen to new music?" Imagine if Apple released an iPod that would only play music recorded in the last 10 years. Would you buy it?

Backward compatibility is always a good thing.

There iz no reason why Vita can't support PS1 Classics when the PSP can easily do it.

Photobucket

It takes time to rewrite an entire emulator.

The ones that use dynamic recompilation, only half their code can be reused (the interpreter)

I think it's time to AT LEAST push for ps2 classics..

Vita isn't powerful enough to emulate PS2 games.

PS2 is ana mazingly complex piece of hardware. It took 6 years for them to finish the PS2 emulator for PS3, and it only works with a dozen or so games

Have to call B>S here, They already confirmed final fantasy x for the Vita. Last I Heard that was a ps 2 game.  Some of the games look as good as ps3. Ps2 Classics CAN and WILL come to the Vita.

Well, FFX is being remade for the Vita, and is not being ported over by Sony.

I hope that this means it'll be something they'll be adding later on. I also hope for improved emulation on the vita, over the PS3.

The PS3 emulator is quite laggy, and doesn't run the games at their original quality. They look, visually, perfect; however when I'm playing something like Crash Team Racing, things aren't as responsive as they are when I play the disc on my PS2.

But that is not the PS2 game it is a rewrite for the PS3 and PSVita, running a game natively is different than running an emulator and the game at the same time. What Techni is probably saying is that the PSVita is not powerful enough to emulate a PS2 and run a PS2 game.

I know the PSVita has more RAM than a PS3 but the processor is not as powerful so I am not sure about this.

Emulating a PS2 takes quite a bit of processing power, I know that much.

Does anyone know the processor's exact specs? I know it's quadcore, but what's the processing power per core?

I found this on a forum that might answer your question

"The CPU max clock speed is 2ghz

the GPU max clock speed is 400mhz

The standard clock speed of the CPU = 800mhz

The standard clock speed of the GPU = 200mhz

What exactly its running on is unknown. The CPU wont be hitting anywhere near 2ghz unless you want to have 5 minutes of battery power ( as the vita designer or developer told us )

Therefore its probably going to be around 800mhz maybe 1ghz at times. the GPU probably will be around the 200mhz.

Nobody knows exactly tho."
