So, I asked Sony a few Vita questions.....

15 replies 39 views Edited Apr 26, 2012

So I asked Sony about the Vita and asked about updates. I got the answers you'd pretty much expect

I just wanted to ask a few questions about the PS Vita as there has been very little to no communication from anyone regarding these issues / queries.

1. Is there an update on PS1 classics becoming available on the VIta?

2. Is there any news on future firmware updates which may improve the browser?

3. Is there any news on Remote play becoming a better working feature? I'm not sure if it is all down to you but I thought I would ask the question.

4. Is there any new on future apps that are coming to the VIta?

5. Are there any plans to include the Vita into the great deals that PS3 users get for being PS+

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA). My name is Gina, your PlayStation®Vita specialist. I will be assisting you today with your questions today.

Unfortunately I do not have any information on when an update will be available making PlayStation®One available on the PS Vita™

There are some PlayStation®One games that are compatible through Remote Play, please visit our website for a list of these games. I have included the link for the exact page you need below:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/02/09/how-to-download-psp-titles-to-ps-vita/

As for the browser on the PS Vita™, I do not have any information about a future update improving the browser capability. The Internet browser on the PS Vita™, much like that on the PlayStation®3 system, will not install software that has not yet been officially tested or approved by SCEA. Certain websites that require special media players, software, or plug-ins (i.e., Quicktime, etc.) to view content will not display on the PS Vita's™ Internet Browser. In addition, the PS Vita™ does not support any third party Internet Browsers (i.e., Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) at this time.

The Remote Play and Cross Play features are limited to certain software titles. We do no have any plans to make PS Vita™ fully compatible with PS3™ or PS2™ titles at this point.

Cross Play is a feature that lets PS Vita™ games interact with compatible PlayStation® 3 (PS3&#153:smileywink: games. The type of interactivity varies by game, and not all games feature Cross Play support.

Cross Play is broad term that covers any PS Vita™ game that has the ability to interact with the PlayStation®3 system version of the same game. New and exciting ways to utilize this unique technology are continuously being introduced; here are some different examples of Cross Play:

• Marvel Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Cross Play lets you use your PS Vita™ to control the PS3™ version of the game.

• Mod Nation Racers: Road Trip: PS Vita™ players can download and share tracks with PS3™ owners.

• Wipeout 2048: PS Vita™ players can compete in online races against Wipeout HD players on the PS3™.

• MLB 12 The Show: Game saves for Road to the Show, Dynasty, and Season modes can be transferred between the PS3™ and PS Vita™, so players can continue their career whether they're at home or on the road.

To find out if a specific game has Cross Play support, check the feature list on the back of the game's box. If you see an icon that looks likes the image to the right, the game supports Cross Play. You can check the game's manual, as well.

Cross Play is enabled differently depending on the game, so you will need to consult your game's instruction manual for details on how to utilize Cross Play.

Regarding Remote Play there are several features that can be run using the PS Vita™ in remote play.

• Settings (only some features)

• Photo (only some features)

• Music

• Video (Cannot play "Blu-ray Discs or DVDs. Also, video files that are copyright protected cannot be played.)

• Game (only some titles)

• Network

• Sony Entertainment Network (only some features)

• Friends

There are three different ways you can connect to the PS3™ for remote play. All of these and the steps to perform are included in the link below.

Doing some research into the PS Vita, I'm able to find a few pieces of PS+ content available for the PS Vita™. As for when specific content will be added, I do not have specific dates on when more PS+ content will be released for the PS Vita. Keep in mind the PlayStation®Store undergoes maintenance and receives updated material on Tuesdays. Please continue to check the PlayStation®Store periodically. You can also use this link to track upcoming game releases:

I understand some of the answers I provided were not the specific answers that you are requesting, however at this point I do not have more exact answers in response to each of these inquiries. I recommend watching the PlayStation® Blog for further updates at http://blog.us.playstation.com

. It has the most up to date information and is the best resource for upcoming content, updates, etc.

Thank you so much for your time and for giving me this opportunity to help you today, Kenneth. You will be receiving a brief survey in your e-mail about the customer service I was able to provide you today. When you do receive the survey, I would really appreciate any feedback or comments you can give about my personal response to you. Have a nice afternoon.

Regards,

Gina K

I don't even bother wasting my time communicating with Sony Customer Service, they are often the last to know about these type of things...

Speaking from first hand experience working in customer service at different companies, you are better off not telling a customer something unless you KNOW for a fact that the answer you are giving is 100% guaranteed.  For example, if you tell a customer that a new feature will be released based on what you know at that moment and that feature ends up being cancelled for whatever reason, you will have a pissed off customer who will tell everybody how your company lied to them.  Be happy that they are not giving you specific answers on things that they don't have a definite answer for.  Even if you email the top of the chain at Sony, there are just too many things that are outside of their control for them to be able to give you a definite answer on the types of questions you are asking.

Very well put and 100% true...

Patience is a virtue everyone

"When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see the real you, or what you have been conditioned to believe is you? The two are so, so different. One is an infinite consciousness capable of being and creating whatever it chooses, the other is an illusion imprisoned by its own perceived and programmed limitations."

I would not ask them any questions on future requests, I literally asked them when the next firmware is coming out, and they did not know, and guess what a firmware came out a few hours later!!!
