It's been happening recently and I don't know what it is.

possibly solder degradation impeding the connection between the CPU or GPU and the motherboard; alternatively a defective hard drive or power supply maybe - are you getting any functionality, or any overheating warnings, and can you try a separate hard drive just to start ruling issues out?

yes, I can play and no there are no warnings...

solder degradation tends to produce excessive fan noise, although not always..... can you put something underneath each corner of the PS3 if horizontal, switch to a wired internet connection as opposed to wireless, and try a replacement hard drive just to make sure that isn't the problem? secondly, have you ever cleaned the innards of the console or changed the thermal compound as it may be bone dry?
