Hey guys long time ps3 owner here and I have a problem my ps3 decided to die a few days ago and went through trial and error leading for a system reset which was unaffective. The ps3:

Model:CECHE01(80GB)
Serial Number: CE921817626

it plays anygame for about 10 mins and freezes badly to where i have to turn it off in the back. After I do i turn it back on and the home menu is laggy, sometimes the game doesnt pop up, or i play again and i dont even get to the menu on the game. I had this ps3 for literally 7 years no problems till now. It went from perfectly fine to just working so obviously its hardware. Now i have to send it in for repair OR take the CECH-2501A (PS3 160GB)(Slim) should i send my old dinosaur in for repair or get the new one both costing $129.

I'd get yours repaired since I believe it plays PS2 games. The slims don't.

In that case get a slim, they seem to be built better and my slim is substantially quiter than my old fatboy. Ideal for watching movies, it's on right now and I don't even hear it running.

My fatboy broke on me 3 times until I finally upgraded to the slim. I don't regret it.

I still own my original PS2, so if I ever want to play my older games, I can just hook that up.

As the poster above me said, the Slim is much quiter and less of a power hungry beast.

When I went to send in my PS3 for repair, that third time, Sony offered me a 120GB Slim for $99 plus my 60GB fatboy.

You could see if they will offer you the same deal.

If you want, you can send it in over here at a cheaper price and they'll be able to increase the life span of the console

Yeah your better off buying a new one which is what I did anyways. Plus you can buy some PS1 and PS2 Games on the Playstation store but it is emulation though but I have some and they play pretty decent.

I had a lot of problems with the older models. I find the slim to be more reliable. It hasn't even gotten any louder yet and I got it during launch. You can also get more space, and a nice bundle with more free stuff if you look around.
