Re: Why Is The Metallic Gold DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller So Rare Now?

This Gamestop exclusive PS3 Controller came out in October of 2012. I wanted to get one but didn't really have a need for a new PS3 Controller at the time. Now Flash Forward 5-6 months later and I see this same controller being sold on eBay for $150! It has been saying out of stock on Gamestop's website for as long as I can remember as it usually retails for $54.99. For those wondering what controller I am talking about exactly here's the link for it.

I really want one of these controllers now that I actually need one (My second PS3 Controller died last week) But am not about to pay these insane prices for it. Anyone know why this stupid controller is so rare after being on the market for a mere few months? Also does anyone know if Gamestop Plans to Re-Stock on more of these controllers?

I was ordering a new controller the other day from AMAZON.COM and they had gold ones, but they were for "pre order, available december 2013"   Smiley Surprised

I have a blue one, a red one, and a camo one.....my 4th black one finally broke to a place I can't use it and I wanted the gold one too.   I was thinking white but with so many fake white ones I'm nervous.

Well I would assume it is rare for the exact reasons you already said... it was an exclusive item only in production for a limited time. I would expect it to be at a higher price being a limited item.

I have no idea if GS is planning on restocking them. You contact them and ask: http://as00.estara.com/OneCC/200106299243/mailform.html

Good luck in your quest for gold!

Doesn't make much sense not to Re-Stock them as many ppl really want them.

Do you not get the concept of LIMITED EDITION?

They're not selling these to meet demand, like any other product.

They were sold promotionally for a limited time, to give them value.

If they sold them just as regularly as the normal ones, then it'd be like "oh, well now everyone has one" and it loses part of its appeal.

The whole point is to reward those who were lucky enough to buy one when they were on sale.

Just look at the Pikachu 3DS XL that went on sale a few days ago. It went on sale at Target for $160 (which is actually $39 cheaper than retail of the normal 3DS XL), and now it's sold out EVERYWHERE (now people are selling on eBay for around $250)

And more likely than not, Nintendo won't restock them. Because then those that have it will feel less "special".

Besides, they don't need to bring a CONTROLLER back, because if someone really needs a new controller, they'll buy one, regardless of color.
