Question on the NGP

8 replies 18 views Edited Mar 24, 2011

I don't know if this is the right board or not for my question. I have a question on Sony's NGP. This question might be answered in the months up to the launch of the system, but here goes.

When the NGP was first announced, there was a mention that every model of the NGP would have wifi built in. Some models would have both 3G and wifi. My question is why have both 3G and wifi put into a handheld?

Well, if you want to play online away from home, you can use a 3G connection to play and connect to the interwebs, but it will cost you for the 3G service, plus the 3G version of the system will cost a little more.

I don't see myself playing online away from home, but that's just me. I'm wondering what the price will be for the NGP? Some think that the price range might be from $200 to $350, but that includes selling every hardware unit at a loss. Some think that the price will be more. I'd be hard pressed if the price was above $400.

I think sony probably learnt their lesson hopefully and will it sell cheap at the beggining. they dont want to commit the same mistake as they did with the early PS3

We'll have to wait and see what the price is from Sony. We'll probably know either at E3 or the Tokyo Game Show.

I don't think you can play games over a Cellular Network. Its due to bandwidth (and depending on the carrier, you may have a Bandwidth Cap), I guess Sony added 3G just for people who want to check their Messages on PSN or other stuff. Browse the Internet? I don't know. But I wouldn't recommend playing online over a Cellular Network unless you want to get charged for extra data.
