*sigh* If anyone is still here looking for the LBS I saw the link for the SOTC artbook the translation for the picture of the top of the tower is "Every point becomes a line, and those lines form an image. There are no restrictions, and the number of possibilities is chaotic. However, with a firm intention, it is possible to work miracles."
Ok, I'm yet a noob in this game. I played a little back in '07 in a old friends house, but only had a glimpse of the awesomeness of FL. Only recently I got the PS3 version to play at will.
I apologise for not have an entiring reading on the thread (I got to around 50th page), so maybe what I'm telling next is already said, confirmed or rejected.
1) If it's true tha LBS was left incomplete in the original version, and since they had the chance to correct glitches for PS3, why not complete it for that new HD version? Maybe even more than one secret!. And so, I believe that LBS is only acessible in PS3 version, that was released in 2011, if I'm not mistaken.
Also, it is possible that the thing is only triggered with a glitch. That was not what was made with ERMAC in MK2?
2) I think that a secret must be related to some underground apth connectin various points, such as Cenobia's temple, Barba's temple... including the pit where Agro falls off before the fight with Malus (it will be an explanation to how the horse came back at the end: he found one entrance to the subterranean way and made his way to SOW). A list of places that could be connected:
- Celosia' temple
- Barba' temple
- Hydrus' ruins
- Pelagia' lake
- Desert Fortress
- Quadratus' beach
- underground of the SOW
- pit at Malus' place
Moreover, every place that has a structure could be connected somehow (it would be magical). A way up within the mountais could end in the ruins at Valus' place. The lake of Gaius, the place of Phaedra, Avion' place, even more distant places, like Cenobia' hidden city.
3) Following another train of thought, I found myself thinking about A0 place. I googled for some map images with quadrants, and haven't found another one that begins with 0. And in SotC map, the A is "out of the map", since it's on the line of the numbers. Again, in the new PS3 version that place could be "put back on the business". In Hydrus' place, there's this kind of climbable tower. Maybe a hawk passes through there eventually.
Perhaps an amazing coincidence (in fact, very probably), but "A0" is the IATA aircode for L'Avion Airlines, commercial name adopted in 2006 by elysair SAS, accordingly to wikipedia. In SotC, could be A0 the place where Avion came from? (it will be on heck of a conspiracy if Sony had anything to do with that: convinced/paid that company to use the name...). As another awesome coincidence, "A0" is also the code for "free climbing without aid gears" in the original grade climbing system. And that's the only type of climbing that Wander does.
Weel, I haven't even got all the itens yet (and I think that if not for a glitch, the secret only can be triggered with all of them collected). Thus, for now nothing is happening for me.
I've read a lot of this topic so far (I've gotten to page 300 aha apparently I have no life) but I think everyone pretty much gave up on the idea of the LBS and decided to see what else they could find through glitching it's a bit disappointing but I can't believe that people including myself are still exploring the forbidden lands and that we're still waiting for The Last Guardian aha but after seeing and reading about everything that got cut from SOTC I'm happy to wait....So anyway the point of this post was to see if there are actually people still looking for the LBS 'cause I sure as hell am aha even if I don't fully believe there is anything at all left to be discovered.
Hey all secret seekers! Nice to be back again ; )
Let me just say first of all that I'm amazed this thread still has some life left in it xD. Although not much these days... All the original secret seekers have moved on with their lives but I'm sure they look back at the days when this thread was in full swing with reverence!
I was surprised to see a post from Ascadia recently - if you are out there Ascadia, I never gave up looking and am 'still' finding new revelations about the game that inspire me to keep searching! I hope you have been watching my Youtube videos, as each one reveals another layer of the game that was unseen before. I just uploaded a video exploring the outer shell of the Shrine of Worship - never seen before until now! Some amazing little secret areas that are impossible to see in the game (without hacking experience) but reveal the absolute beauty of the forbidden lands in all their grandeur. I play other games of course, Skyrim is great and Journey really inspired and of course Ico is a must but nothing compares to Shadow of the Colossus in my mind.
As to 'the Last Big Secret' let me just say this - if there was a secret that we didn't know about, surely the new HD PS3 version would have awarded a trophy for this? You get a trophy in Ico when you get the mace and you get a trophy in Shadow when you climb the temple 'Temple Climber' - so as far as I'm concerned, this is the 'secret' in Shadow of the Colossus'. I know it's not much of a secret as everybody who rode around the temple noticed the moss growing on the side of the temple. But the route you have to climb is very similar in style to climbing a colossus. So you could say that the temple itself is one giant colossus that Wander must climb, so the 17th colossus to me is the Shrine of Worship. Think about it, it has moss (fur) that you can grab onto, you have to climb up a long circuitous path to reach the summit and when you get to the secret garden there is fruit that negates the effects of killing all the colossi. An anti-colossus if you will. It's like the last colossus gives you back your humanity after all the pain and grief you have suffered killing the other 16 colossi. This is the only legitimate secret in the game... searching for other secrets will lead you nowhere, take it from me, I have explored the lands from top to bottom and know every foot of the game by heart - if there was something new I would have posted a video about it by now - and I've been at it for nearly 4 years!
Right now, my interest lies in trying to find out as much as I can about the beta colossi (or the eight discarded colossi). I recently discovered that the Monkey colossus probably existed in I3 on the map (just behind the Dam). There is an image from the art book that shows a debug screen capture of Wander climbing the Monkey colossus - if you look closely you can see some position co-ordinates there. When I overlay these co-ordinates on the world map they seem to correspond to I3, but are a better match at B4 (Dirge's lair #10). So my idea now is that the Monkey was supposed to be where #10 is today. If you look up at the roof of #10's cave you will see all these rounded boulders hanging down from the roof of the cave. These I think used to be stalagtites, but when they removed the Monkey and replaced it with the sand worm colossus they rounded off the stalagtites, this might explain the four rock towers at #10's lair that you can't climb... sure, they act as safe havens from Dirge but perhaps they once served another function? Maybe the Monkey used these to evade Wander's arrows for instance?
The other thing I've been trying to find out about is the Shadow of the Colossus press kit. It is very rare and only a few people own it but what video material or demos it contains is a mystery to me. It was released in 2004, before the game was released in order to inspire the media about the game, so it might contain some unseen footage (or not). I know of only one person who has confirned owns it but have had no responses to my emails. So if you know anthing about the press kit please let me know.
Finally, I will say this, there may not be a 'Last Big Secret' but there are still mysteries to be found in the game. So keep searcjing, keep exploring every little detail, who knows what will turn up? Even today, eight years after it's release I am still amazed by what I can find in the forbidden lands.
This thread's got a real history to it. It would be great if someone who's been here the whole way could point out all of the places where something interesting happened in the thread. I think it's so great how the game has not only created such an amazing puzzle, but also bonded the secret seekers together. I only wish I could've been there with you.
Seekers... it's been a long time! I hope you are all well and I'm happy to see the thread active still! Many fond memories and good times I've had with this thread!
I don't know how many of you are redditors, but for what's it is worth I summarized this thread to the best of my capability and personal remembrance, on reddit this morning. I invite you all to check out the conversation there, and perhaps help me expand it to the reddit audience which may drive more interested persons back here, to the source. Partly to help continue findings, or at least to enjoy what has been found!
I don't if anyone has read this yet, buuuuut:
That link leads to the lastest publication of Eurogamer... to be specific, it leads to an interview that took place with Ozzy and Nomad in regards to our search for the last big secret. As of the time of my writing this, the article is at the top of Kotaku.com's home page as well.
Words can't express.
You guys have done an incredible job. All of you. I never expected this to become this big, especially this long after the bulk of the hunt has concluded. Remember this, and be sure to thank Craig Owens, the author of the article, as well as Nomad and Ozzy for agreeing to be interviewed.
Did you get my message Ascadia?
Craig wanted to ask you some questions as well for the article but we couldn't contact you... I also asked Pikol to join in but didn't hear back from him either.
Oh well, maybe next time ; )
