Purchasing and Installing a new Hard Drive for Noobs

7 replies 134 views Edited Jan 14, 2013

Okay I have a 60gb backwards compatible PS3. I want to purcahse/install a new hard drive(a bigger one). The thing is I'm skeptical on which one to purchase. I've seen a lot of people say "oh this one didn't work on my PS3". I would like to know if anyone could direct me to the best hard drive to get. Whether it be on Amazon or Ebay or what ever.

As far as installing, I'm sure I could find a good youtube tutorial but, I just want to make sure I purchase the right hard drive. Any help is apreciated. Thanks

2.5" SATA Laptop hdd, must be 9.5mm tall or it will not fit inside.

Thats all you need to know.

If you're looking for specific hard drives, Western Digital Scorpio Blue drives have served me well for over 5 years in my PS3's....

60Gb huh? How have you survived for so long without upgrading?

Furiously Chaosing

I get you so horked up

I had this console on and off past few years. At this point it's time cause GT5 is HUGE and I can't buy anything for it digitally.

My 360 has 250gb and I like it so much more. Want that flexibility with the PS3. Heading to Amazon soon...

I have the 80 GB MotorStorm PS3 and I put a 500GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue in my PS3, it was very easy to do took me about 15 minutes to do, the hardest part was that blue screw. Its and easy process. Good Luck.

gR3y is right about the specs. That's really all you need to worry about.

Once you get all set up the way you want, head on over to:

You'll find a great group of fellow GT fans to meet & race with. :smileywink:

Appreciate the help. I only ask becaues I read comments from time to time of people saying "oh this doesn't work with my PS3" and I'm really not in the mood to replace my HD then have it not work. I don't feel like getting the newer PS3's cause I love the backwards compatibility I have with my PS2 games.
