Ps3 xmb has minor lag after upgrading to a 350gig WD Scorpio

I folowed the instructions, it formated fast etc.. but the **bleep** xmb laggs a little bit. its not noticible but its not as smooth as it was prior to the upgrade! WTH is going on here?

try system settings, restore default settings - I do it once in a while to keep my xmb sharp, although I lose my internet bookmarks and the settings generally need to be reconfigured ;-)

It fixed itself upon a second boot up.. my problem is the restore option fails at 75% IV TRYED 2 TIMES!!! making sure nothing was corrupted formatting, rebuilding database etc etc.. bull crap..

when you say failed do you mean slows to a standstill, as backup/restore is notoriously slow in the home straight - you just need to wait it out......

Is this new hard disk one of those Western Digital Scorpio Blue series?

Western Digital Scorpio Blues are designed for laptops and other devices where power consumption must be kept very very low. Thus they have very aggressive power saving features. This *might* cause lag and slowdown depending on what you do with it. Users from AVForums even reported playing video on the PS3 stutters because the drive is taking a quick snooze to save power.

That said, if you can exchange it for a Scorpio Black, which has none of the power saving and has higher performance, go for it.
