PlayStation warranty question

[ Edited ]

I want to purchase a PS4 along with a warranty just in case I would have problems down the road. I have been a loyal customer of Best Buy and Gamestop for a long time now but I honestly don't trust Gamestop's warranty and I have had problems with Best Buy's warranty system (Target was even worse from past experiences). I would think purchasing a warranty through Sony themselves would be much more convenient considering they are the ones producing the product. Not to mention for 2 or 3 years plus accidental damage for only $60 is much better than $80 at Best Buy.

Anyways, I'll get to the question: If I bought a PS4 on say April 1st, when would be the deadline where I couldn't purchase the warranty any longer? Would it be like a week or just a couple of days after the purchase has transpired? As you see, $400 plus everything else is a lot of money so being able to replenish my bank account before I get the warranty would be much more comforting for myself. Thanks! And if you have anything else you'd like to add to this subject feel free to say it, I might be able to answer your question as well.

The accidental has to be purchased within 30 days of purchase. The normal warranty can be done within a year if I remember correctly. Also you're going to need to email a copy of your receipt to Sony when you do purchase a warranty so don't lose it.

Awesomeness! But what do you mean by: "email a copy of your receipt to Sony when you do purchase a warranty"?

They want you to send them a copy of your consoles receipt. They basically want it for proof of purchase. They send you an email after you purchase the warranty with instructions.

Awtacular is correct and here is the FAQ link in print that says the same thing:

http://us.playstation.com/support/protection-plan/faqs/index.htm

I was also in the same boat as I am also a loyal customer with gamestop and bestbuy, but I found in dealing with warranties it's much better dealing with the manufacturer. It seems faster and cheaper in the long run and the limited time I had with playstation customer support over the years was very nice and prompt with my questions. Smiley Happy

Also, a small perk is you get SonyReward points when you buy the warranty plan from the PSN store.

The store I purchased my console from actually stopped selling warranties for gaming consoles due to conflicts they were having with the manufacturers, at least that's what they told me. I ended up getting the accidental warranty through Sony right at launch since my unit didn't work out of the box. I had a very reasonable turn around time with Sony. It took exactly a week if you count the weekends (or 5 business days) to get my replacement at launch when they were slammed so they're definitely taking care of business.

I prefer the playstation warranty because its 36 months long. While you do need a receipt to exchange your system under the warranty am not totally sure if you need to show proof of purchase to buy a warranty. I did not need to email Sony a copy of my receipt. Then again I purchased my warranty within a month of launch so that might have been proof enough that I was eligible for accidental coverage.

Strange, I did not receive one of those. But I did receive an email confirming the purchase of my protection plan. I found it strange that I was not ask for my serial number when I purchased the plan from the online store.. I even contacted a rep about, and they confirmed that everything was in order. But your method does eliminate the purpose of holding on to the receipt as you have already send them the proof of purchase. Going to contact them next week about sending my proof of purchase.
