As long as your account remains a subscriber your son's sub-account will be able to access all the games downloaded to the master-account, this includes any DLC, but avatars & themes are not available. This is assuming you're both using the same PS3.

Welcome to the PlayStation Community.
My son (11 years old) wants to upgrade to PlayStation plus. My question is this, if i activate it on my account, the master account, will he be able to download games on his sub-account without having to be logged into my account? Thanks in advance.
I just want to add something to what dark said above, the sub-account cannot download the games, only the master one can do that, so he'll still need you to download them for him, either that or he'll need access to your account.
Thanks. He has access to my account so downloading games shouldn't be a problem for him. As for Avatars and themes, I don't think he cares much for those anyhow...lol. Your help has been greatly appreciated.
You're welcome, glad we could help.
Just a word of advice before i go, if he has access to your account, you may want to make sue he can't make purchases without your knowledge, unelss you're happy for him to do so of course!
You can put your PSN ID with PS+ purchases on up to 2 PS3's.
ANYONE on those two consoles with their own PSN ID are allowed to use the content you purchase, whether $ paid or PS+ "free" ... just like you can use anything anyone else buys on those PS3's.
If you have a handheld, PSP or PS Vita, only the owner of the PSN ID that bought anything has to be the activated PSN ID on the PS Vita, and also on the PSP.
It matters more on the PS Vita, since most kids and adults want their own Trophy and Game saves on the handheld, and you can't "share" that content to a different PSN ID at all.
