PSN hack affected 70 mil. people?

I have recently had a discussion with someone on another forum about when PSN was compromised. They also said that everyone during that time had there information stolen. Which isn't true I was a member during that time and I didn't have any of my personal details taken and used against me. I also didn't have a credit card attached to my account.

The real question I'm trying to ask is was it really between 70-77 million people or were they really talking about accounts?

I'm well aware that PSN allows you to make more than one account as long as you have a seperate email. The PS3 can even handle at least 64 PSN accounts on one system according to the playstation support page.

Now if it really was 70 million people then that would mean that it was 1 person's account per ps3 wouldn't it? I know for a fact that some people have more than one account though. I myself have at least 3.

Was it 70 million people or is it an even lower number of people and that was just the amount of accounts at the time?

I've also read that Sony counts each account indvidually to get a number so that also means counting multiples as one.

When the hacking did happen was anything really legitametly taken or has Sony ever reported that personal data/credit card data was stolen?

If you want to see this debate: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/gaming-discussion/playstation-4-or-xbox-one/t.90054503_106/

It's between Reno Takamiya which is me, and another guy called God Emperor Baldur. I realize that some of my math is most likely off but I also have a learning disability.  The debate starts on the 6th post on page 8 and lasts until page 9.

Two things:

1. The hacking did happen... About four years ago. And it was widely facepalmingly overblown by the "gaming media" and continues to be brought up today with frequent exaggeration.

2. Also... It's Gaia Online. No offense, but it's a community not known for their posting quality. Smiley Indifferent

I've receieved an answer from a friend on the same site. It was pretty much 77 million accounts that were impacted but at the same time not definetively effected. Which I pretty much thought was the case.

Most of the data that was taken was in Salted Hash and modified. The credit card data that was accessed was either in hash or encrypted and not in use.

The guy I was debating with made it seem like it was 77 million people which it's the opposite.

It doesn't help that Sony individually counts multiple accounts as one and different indivdual people.

77 Million accounts. Nobody truly know the number of people based on free accounts.

The case of which you thought is true, not always effected. HOwever they did get some information that was not encrypted, but it's value can be debated (address, dob, email, etc).

From that tragic day, not one single person out of 77 million people ever had their credit card charged. I can NOT stress that FACT enough with fanboys who only bring the PSN hack up. It's like they are so upset with there purchase that they try to bash Sony and PlayStation to make them feel good about themselves.

Are you talking about the 2011 hack? If so, why bring it up now? If you really want to discuss about the 2011 hack, should of done that back in 2011, not in 2014. The past is the past.

^ Reply to above post.

Then people should stop discussing about anything that doesn't have to do with the year 2014.

Oh wait, they don't.

Yeah, it was so "overblown" and "exaggerated" that it took Sony forever and a day to actually get their network to be safe again...

Go ahead, kill me. Doesn't matter, I'm eternal in the real world.
