Ok so I know there are million of these threads but trust me, I have read tons.
So my problem is: I used to connect to PSN using the bridging option via my laptop, which worked perfectly.
We have just recently changed our network to Virgin media from BT.
So with this we have a new Router it is a Netgear CG2100D, at first I had trouble connecting to the internet with my laptop but managed to sort that out. The problem I occur is if I bridge the connection to my playstation and do a automatic settings for wired connection the IP times out.
If I do a manual wired connection there is DNS error. I have tried many Open DNS which people say helps but still it doesnt work.
you may ask if why don't I just connect by wireless, the reason why I don't is because my router is downstairs and my playsation upstairs only recieve a 20% signal, where as my laptop has a much stronger signal.
I am wondering if there is anything within the security of the router which is not allowing to bridge correctly?
Any ideas please help!!
I really don't think that the router can stop your bridge, as it is out of its "hands" after going to your pc (router>pc>bridge>ps3). It would have to be the bridge not working correctly. I am assuming that your have deleted the bridge and tried again fresh. Maybe a firewall on your end? What are the error codes you get from the ps3?
Yes I have tried many times with new bridges.
The error codes I get are >
If i choose automatic IP, it says 'The attempt to obtain an IP address timed out.'
If I Choose to manually type in my IP
IP Address: 192.168.0.6
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Router: 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS 18.104.22.168
Secondary DNS: 22.214.171.124
I get the Error Code: DNS error (80710102)
If I type in a Open DNS like 126.96.36.199 and 188.8.131.52
I still get the same DNS error
As for the Firewall I have disabled it completely on my laptop, maybe it is the firewall on the router?
You have your PC connected wirelesly and then use the ethernet port to connect the PS3 right? If so, this procedure should get you up and running:
Wireless: Auto detect settings. Make sure you go into the wireless status page and enable connection sharing on it.
Wired PC port: Static IP:
IP: 192.168.10.1 (or whatever you want to put into the "10" place that isn't identical to your wireless settings)
No DNS should be necessary since Windows is handling all internet traffic through the shared connection on the PC.
PS3: Static IP:
IP: 192.168.10.2 (identical to the PC one but with a different ending IP address number)
Gateway: 192.168.10.1 (PC ethernet IP address)
DNS: 192.168.10.1 (Also PC ethernet IP address)
Your PC is the DNS server since it is routing all the traffic from the console to the internet.
Hope that helps. That should get you up and running online with your PS3.
Hey mate i know this is a super old post and all but i came across your rpely from 2 years ago, and I was wondering if you could help me out with this? I did what u said with the bridging, I obtain an IP address but the internet connection fails?
