With advancment in technology usually comes and advancement in security.  I'll be looking forward to seeing what the details are when they announce them.

Until you get you PS4... enjoy that PS3! Have fun gaming!

About the "rectal probe and thumbscrew drm" they need to deter hackers?

Wouldn't dream of it.

I thank you for the kind words.  I was merely stating the usual progression of things.  I realize now that it may have come off a little smart alecky too, not my intention though. In any case I am looking forward the advancements in security.

Sounds just like the classic "With great power comes great responsibility" statement.

Just keep in mind that because it's NEW, it's highly possible that they may have overlooked some exploit that some hacker may eventually find.

No such thing as "hack-proof" nowadays.

Hopefully it will. Its a new system built from the ground up. I can't stand how hacked the PS3 is.

PS3 Platform Architecture vs.. PS4 Platform Architecture

Mar 16, 2013

So one thing I think is being missed in the discussion regarding relative security of a console is the underlying architecture of the device. The PS3 was cell based and very proprietary. Even developers spoke out in the "early years" of the difficulties in developing for the console.

At the PS4 launch event, it was stated that the next-gen console was based on x86 computer based architecture. Albeit with some highly pumped up memory specs and of course other improvements as well. However, the root of the design is still x86 architecture.

I think "hacker familiarity" with an already know architecture makes it ripe for diving in to see what they can find out about the console, it's security and how it operates.

Without a deeper knowledge of all the hardware details though and more education on my part I can't make more than an educated guess as to its strengths & weaknesses, I'm just not that smart Robot Frustrated
