Personally I would never run a gaming console off of wifi. As soon as you go wireless you are losing half of your throughput on any device.

I have the same problem just like yours here in Russia. 2/1.5 mps connection speed over wifi (Apple Airport Express) and 50/25 with ethernet connected deeply in console. At the same time iPad and Macbook have 50/25 wireless in the same network and at the same distance.

I don't have any idea what to do with that. The most horrible thing that Sony doesn't included 5ghz wireless chip in next generation console which was made for at least 6 years of active using. I'm not saying about "ac" draft.

The numbers reported by Sony's built-in speed test, on the PS4, are not accurate. You need to use a speed test website through the PS4's browser.

You guys keep going on about your bandwidth but really, bandwidth has nothing to do with it. I used to play on a 2 mbps down/ 0.8 mbps up DSL connection and could play perfectly without lagging.. It's your ping and latency that cause issues for gaming. The connection I'm on now is only 10 mbps down and maybe 2 mbps up and plays perfectly fine.

And yes, being over wifi is way too inconsistent for online gaming.

So did you just bridge your Xfinity modem and plug 2 routers in??

I am thinking of buyng the Airport extreme and just trying that for everthing.  I saw another post where I guy just got the extreme and it solved all his issues.

Actually cat5 is shielded. Cat6 just has better shielding. If you had issues with your old wiring it because there was a short in a wire or a rodent chewed through the shielding. It sounds like swapping out you old home wires were what solved the problem not upgrading to cat 6.

Its actually a brand new house. Not even 3 years old, and there are no rodents... I have people that take care of that.

The cat5 that was installed was unshielded. Not all cables are the same.

And it was cheaper to buy a spool of shielded cat6 do it myself than pay a few hundred bucks for someone else to do it.

It is not slow...

I use my ps4 wirelessly and have no issues with speed

If your home network is slow.... Look at your network configuration.

The PS4 has wireless N.... Which supports up to 300mbps.

Unless you have a business class connection in your home, less than 1% of the nations ISPs even offer 100mb connections, your problem is not the console... But your network configuration.

Apple network devices are PURE crap. And overly complicated to configure your own values.

Anything but Apple.
