PS4 Price and Launch

14 replies 244 views Edited Feb 21, 2013

I love everything that happened tonight.  The one question that scares me about all of this is the price.  PS3 wonderful machine, horrible launch price.

I hope that the PS4 is going to be between $300-$400.

What are your thoughts people.

Also I think we are looking at a November 9, 2012 release.  One big launch then 2 weeks before black friday, so that gives a window of 2 shipments before the big holiday rush.

I'd venture to say we are likely looking more in the $400-450 range, given the hardware specs.  A custom 8-core CPU and an advanced Radeon-class GPU, plus 8GB of DDR5 RAM...  in a computer, that alone would put you between $1,000 and $1,200.

As for the date, I imagine early to mid November is a pretty good guess.  Wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed into 2014, either.

I have no idea... It's hard to imagine that they will be using something of a next-gen AMD card with an 8 core processor, 8gb of DDR5 RAM and have it all be under 599 US dollars (this NVIDIA card alone costs....: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130801).

The Wii U is $350 (for the decent one) and it's not all that "Next-Gen" and so you know it's going to be more than that.  Then you have the VITA which is $250 which they are going to try and sell you because it's going to do quite a bit with the PS4.  They have put themselves in a predicament because now they can't sell it for more that $400.  Why you ask?  Well they could say it is much more powerful than the Wii U blah blah blah and try to sell it for $500.  Well now you are saying I could buy 2 of your other system (VITA)  for the same price? $400 though, you are paying $150 more than the VITA and getting a quality console.  $400 is the sweet spot.

I would say $400-$450 range. The Wii U is $300 simply because the controller is about $100 to make. They will not sell you one on the consumer market because the price is so unfavorable, but they will replace a broken one for $150. Put $100 into specs and you can make some good achievements. Even then, it took until 2010 or so for the Ps3 to make money per console.

AMD cards are budget priced, so they're going to help keep the price down, the 8 core CPU is going to be amazing, but since it's custom will probably be designed to be most performance wise efficient while being cost efficient. The memory isn't mainstream yet, and tends to be cheaper than ddr3 memory (note the cost of ddr5 videocards compared to ddr3 cards, ddr3 will be older models)

And since consoles ar emass produced, Sony gets a better whole sale price on the chips and hardware. A console is cheaper to make than a PC because of this a lot of times (along with not needing a monitor, OS, mouse/keyboard, etc)
