PS4 Hard Drive

35 replies 425 views Edited Feb 21, 2013

How much space do you think it will have and do you think it will be replacable?

I'm really hoping that it will be replacable since with Sony's new download as you go technology discs are kind of a thing of the past. I'm thinking it will come with a 500 GB HDD, maybe another model with 250.

It will probably be replaceable. The size is a very minor concern of mine. I know it's going to be at least the same size as the 250 and 500gb drives that are in the ps3. It wouldn't make any sense at all to make them smaller.

Basic model? Probably around 150-250gb. I just hope to God that installs will not be needed on every other game. My 80gb is at 4gb because of the Bethesda and Rockstar installs. 5gb here, 4.4 gb there....geezzzzz

With digital downloads being a focal point, you're going to be looking at installing games.

I'm guessing it will be laptop sized hard drives , not those huge Sata pc ones.
Also, 250gb and lower is the thing of the past, common we can download full games from the PSN store now. I'm guessing 500-1 terabyte.

Not digital downloads necessarily. For example, buying Skyrim on a disc still made you install over 4gb onto the HDD just to play it.

To keep prices down, I could see just using a 250gb HDD that can be changed at a later time like the Ps3.

I'm thinking that installs won't be used as much with PS4. Sony clearly stated that they wanted users to be able to access games as quick as possible. and **bleep** would be the point of playing the game while it's downloading if you have to do a lengthy install prior to playing? makes no sense at all to me.

500GB Standard Model

750GB+ Premium

Sony has been pushing digital a lot lately, especially with Playstation Plus. They make money off of game sales for their platform, selling the games themselves in their own store earns them another cut. Current PS3's are sold at 500GB max, I say they leave that as standard and go higher from there because games are going to take up more HDD space, and they want to continue to push more digital sales without people worrying about space being an issue.

Yeah, and the Cell made the game run off the processor, so the stronger GPU will hopefully cut down on that.
