PS4 Free to play games

17 replies 1469 views Edited Jul 15, 2013

I keep discovering more and more free to play games coming to PS4 but I am not hearing a lot of talk on the forums or from Sony about this. So far I've heard about:

Planetside 2

DC Universe Online

War Frame

Blacklight

and today I just heard that Warthunder is coming as well.

These are all non-PS+ games and will not require PS+ membership to play online. Has anyone heard of any other Free to play games coming to PS4?

Destiny is a retail game which will be sold for $60.

It may be free to play online, but an F2P game is generally defined as a game which is free to download as well as to play.

Iv'e only heard a couple of people mention these F2P games, & you're right, Sony does appear to be quiet on the subject, but don't blame them, from what I know that may be because it's actually little or nothing to do with Sony, if a game is to be FTP it will be down to the developers, not Sony.

Elder Scrolls Online is also rumored to be FTP, but not confirmed.

It definitely does seem different and more interesting compared to how Live has been run. On live you have to have gold for anything online. But leaving the decision to the gamemakers creates a gray area. I'm assuming publishers get some sort of percentage from the plus memberships because otherwise they would have no incentive to charge for online. That percentage would have to be pretty decent or it could backfire on Sony. If publishers start creating a trend of not requiring plus, then Sony wont end up getting as many subscriptions as they'd hoped for and they'd end up being the only publisher requiring plus. But then, maybe publishers have to pay a fee to have free multiplayer. It's just speculation though, because as you said, Sony hasn't said anything on the subject.

They may not be saying much about the FTP games but at the same time it gives us some mystery to what games will be playable when the ps4 will launch so we will get a surprise not only that at least we are going to have some FTP games

Warframe looks awesome and I can't wait to play it.

As for the Elder Scrolls: Online being F2P, I highly doubt it.
