PS4 Digital Game Prices Not Dropping

[ Edited ]

So its been nearly half a year now since the PS4 launched, most retailers have droped some of the launch games like Killzone and Assassins Creed to $39.99 and I have to ask, why are all the digital versions of those games still $60? I thought Sony was trying to lead us into a digital age with their new console but so far it still doesn't seem to beat retail in terms of price, will Sony ever drop the prices of those games or are they going to remain $60 forever?

It's been this way for nearly a decade, at least speaking in terms of the PlayStation Network. Digital sales aren't competitive with retail sales. You want physical? You can go to Wal-Mart, or GameStop, or Best Buy, or Kaybee's (at one time), or Toys "R" Us, or several other places that distribute video games to customers.

In the digital realm you have a few main choices, ranging from Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, to what's on Steam. Each store operates differently from a certain light, but they all sell you games with sales in mind. Sure enough, just because a full game is originally $60 at first glance doesn't mean it's always going to be so. Sometimes the price drops, and sometimes after an age or two it becomes a rare find. Then you have to haggle with those who may try to swindle you for this sacred object of your desire.

Digital sales though don't increase in rarity, unless of course they become delisted for whatever reason. Developers want their games to sell the same way as they do in their physical nature. Digitally, they can maintain this trend for longer periods than at retail. Where a lot of people shop in person, there's also been many customers getting hip to the ways of lazily having your game instantly delivered to your harddrive. Sales-wise, there are times when services like Plus and of course the weekly deals will fetch you the game for less, but there's a lot of times you may even be able to find the same copy in its physical form much cheaper if you shop around for it.

Amazon has had the digital versions for the same price as physical for some games. Check there first before buying.

Those are sale that retailers do because if you haven't noticed Best Buy, Amazon, etc sell other product so they can run sales on things to draw customers in. Those sales are temporary and as far as ps store goes the publisher of said game controls prices. That's how things work.

Killzone and Assassins Creed are still very much $60 games everywhere unless they go on sale.
