PS4 Browser disappointment

11 replies 2095 views Edited Nov 18, 2013

I didn't think it was possible, but the browser for the PS4 is even less robust than the one for the PS3.

No option to set home page.  No variable R3 zoom.  Clunkier User Interface.

I must say, between the the steps backwards in Browser, MP3, DLNA, CD support, and no BD remote, the PS3 still remains a more enjoyable experience.

However, the feature of using controller motion controls to select characters when using the on screen keyboard is quite good and very intuitive.

My biggest question is, why this was not carried over to the browser itself.  It feels strange to type in your Web URL using very nice smooth motion controls, only to be relegated to the directional pad for navigation on the web page itself.

The controller motion controls for the browser would have been so easy to implement.

I too wish the browser was better. The browser is relevant this time around because of the multitasking ability of the ps4.

If I am stuck in a game, I can flip over to the browser, get a walkthrpugh, and jump back and forth with a doubletap of this PS button.

It wasn't useful for this on the ps3 because you had to close the game.

But on the ps4, I could see a decent browser being really useful

Why the hell do you need to ask people to validate their choices to you.

In answer to your question, because it is convenient, and available.

Plus right now, it may be the only way to stream MP3s to the system.

Why do you care?  They included the dam thing, they could have at least made it as robust of a UI as the PS3.

If I am sitting in my living room and want to look up some information or check my emails, It is more convenient to just check on my TV, then go and boot up a PC, wasting even more power for something that may only take five minutes.

I don't have a smart phone.  I refuse to get one.  I will not be tethered to some phone, having to answer every little text message that comes in, just because people now expect immediate responses from people who have such devices permanently attached to their hands.

I agree with this. After using the controller to input characters so easily, I caught myself more than once trying to move it for navigation. It would make things so much easier and more fluent.

But in only three, pre determined levels of magnification.

The PS3 browser had the ability to variably zoom in.  Thus allowing you to zoom in on a video window exactly, and blow it up to full screen.  Worked well for site like Daily Motion and such.

Why not?   I have a keyboard with a touchpad built in that would be nice to use on the ps4.   Right now I have both a ps4 and pc hooked up to the tv with 2 separate keyboards.  Once dlna supports the ps4 it would be nice to shove the pc in a closet somewhere but, not if the browser is crap on the console
