PS3 will not start game or movie, screen just stays black, please help

18 replies 4465 views Edited Nov 12, 2009
I played MW2 on my ps3 for 4 hours yesterday and now when I launch the game from the start menu the screen goes black and stays black. I have tried taking the disk out and inserting it again only to have the same thing happen. The green and blue lights are both on when this happens so there is no yellow light of death here. Do i need to do a system restore? I have backed up all of my files to a seperate hard drive already.

I can see Modern Warfare 2 under games but when it launches there is only a black screen. Shutting down and restarting the system did not work

usually this happens for a short time. this is usually because the ps3 and the tv are trying to adjust the screen to the optimal setting. what is happening to you may be because it is haveing trouble doin this. just try and turn it off and then back on. if this continues call sony and they may be able to help.

I dont have the game, but Ive read numerous threads about ppl having issues with it, be it gameplay or trying to get updates. Try the MW2 forums.

sorry for the double post. but what type of tv do you have (1080, 720) and what type is MW2? because the older hdtv's wont adjust. for instance if you have a 1080 tv and MW2 is 720 then it wouldnt work and vise versa.

dont be misleading with false info! ALL games work on any tv, a 1080p games will still work on an SD tv! the ps3 will adjust display settings to work on any tv. hence the composite/component/hdmi options

Yes the XMB displays fine, it even reads the MW2 disc and brings up the background wallpaper when i select mw2, but once it launches there is the black screen
