Okay so my ps3 kept freezing and not reading any discs. I look all around the internet what to do, and it told me to do a file sytem restore. So i tried it because i heard this wouldnt lose my game plays like ac 2 ac brotherhood and infamous 2. SO i started it and it got stuck at 10% but went up to 48% and now it stuck for 5 hour and still going. Im afraid to turn it off. HELP!?!
Your hard drive might be toast. I hope you made backups.
Restart the PS3 and go into Safe Mode again. Try another Restore File System. If this one completes, take a spare USB thumb drive and use the Saved Data Utility to manually backup as many game saves as you can. If you have PlayStation Plus, then use the Online Storage.
If i turn it off while it doing a file restore won't something bad happen to my ps3 .
Something bad already happened. It's damage mitigation time.
So i have to turn off my sytem and try a file resotration again. WIll any game data be corrupted if i turn it off while this first file restoration becuase it says restoring do not turn off sytem.
No, it probably won't corrupt any game data on its own. However, your hard drive might be failing. It wouldn't matter if your game data is getting more corrupted. You want to save as much useful data (game saves) as you can. You can always reinstall game data later on a good hard drive.
You could wait another few hours if the orange light on the front of the console is still blinking. Chances are, it's taking extremely long because your PS3 is simply having trouble reading your failing hard drive.
That means your hard disk is completely offline. Stick a fork in it; it's done.
It was probably toast already during the restore file system operation. It's new hard drive time now. Remember to make backups for next time.
