PS3 Super Slim Disc Eject

13 replies 11736 views Edited Nov 26, 2012

Is the console made only to change games when it is turned off? Will I do any damage to my disc drive by hitting the eject button while there is a game in there? Just to see what was happening, while I was on the home screen, I hit eject and my Infamous disc came to a rapid stop. I couldn't find any official answers in the manual.

It is best to be out of the game and onto the XMB when removing disks. Do not hit eject while the game is running, always quit the game first.

Just feel as if in the slot loading ones, they went through an eject procedure, where in this new one it will never stop reading the game (spinning the disc).

I believe that my ps2 does the same from the sounds of it, but as long as you are completely out of the game it should be fine. I don't understand why the disc would be spinning if you're not actually in the game, that's just a waste of resources.

It is a safety mechanism to bring the disc to a stop when it is ejected. It is probably OK to do, but you shouldn't make a habit out of it...

Does anyone think they will release an update to stop disc from the XMB menu or when you hit options on the disc? Not that I'm swapping games every 5 mins, but its possible that I turn it on to realize that the game currently in there is not what I want to play. I don't want to turn the system completley off to change the game properly.

You don't have to turn your PS3 off to change the game, doing it from the XMB is fine. What I was reffering to before is ejecting a disc while a game is playing...

Most games have an animated XMB icon.  Those are playing off the disc, much like a video.

I have the 250gb super slim, I actually like the design best because u dont have to worry about a disc drive sticking and not wanting to open or a game getting stuck in the inverted ones and not bein able to get it out, if lens needs cleaned really easy to get to or make a quick fix if needed! However the way the disc spins til its opened doesnt seem rigjht.. You would think that the disc coming to an abrupt stop like that would be harmful to the console..
