PS3 Slim Makes Cracking/Clicking Sound

20 replies 11767 views Edited Dec 20, 2009

My PS3 Slim (120 gb - only had it three months) is making weird clicking and cracking sounds when it is both running and turned off. At first I thought it was the case making the sound when it cools down, but it makes the noise after it's been running a while also.

Anyone else notice this or know why it's happening?

Like u basically said..it happens when the plastic the ps3 is made out of expands...n depends on how much u play it, it will take longer to cool down n when the plastic cools it will also make that sound...as for when its running...is it the same sound as when its cooling down? cuz it could be from the BlueRay drive..mine started clicking just before it went out ...

Mine makes the same noise.  Like you thought, it is the case making the noise.  Mine has consistently done it since the time i got it, so there is no problem.

My slim makes the same noises when inserting/ejecting a disc, I think its normal for the Slim model to make it.

The usefulness of the search feature clearly eludes many.

Well my computer makes weird noises when I turn it on or try to make it think. Also the wires crackle a bit when i shut her down, its far from new so the casing does not really make any sounds anymore but if it were new I bet it would...

This cant be all that different than what your hearing with your PS3.

The cell processors in the PS3 slim are actually run by little nanobots who will only work under warm climates. While you PS3 is running, it creates enough heat to satisfy the nanobot conditions. However, once you shut your PS3 down and remove the heat source, the nanobots usually go into shock looking for heat.

That crackling sound you hear is several small fires being started by the nanobots while they try to keep warm. Sadly nanobots arn't the smartest little robots and will actually step foot INTO the fire and burn. As a result, shortly the fires burn out, and you no longer hear the crackling.

New nanobots arrive at your PS3 the next time you turn it on, usually by Wifi, but have also been know to transfer over from other consoles, such as the Xbox 360. As a

result, this ends up adding to the RROD situation in 360's as their nanobots leave to go to the tropical paradise known as the PS3.
