PS3 Router Setup ?s UPnP:not available NAT type 3,2

33 replies 1604 views Edited Jan 28, 2008
Can anyone help me? I'm Trying to get my headset to broadcast and set up my connection for the best proformance.
I have a wired connection to a Actiontec router which has a built in modem. My ISP is verizon FIOS 5/2.
I thought all was well until I set up a headset and tried to voicechat while playing Resistance and found I could not broadcast.
I then checked my network connection and noticed The UPnP was not available, and the NAT was type 3.
I called sony and they told me to open destination ports: TCP 80, 443, 5223, 10070-10080; and UDP 3478, 3479, 3658. I did and the NAT went to Type 2, but the plug n play is still not available, and the voicechat still didn't work. So I called back and was told to open UDP 6000-7000 I did and no change.
Actiontec won't talk to verizon customers. Verizon has no clue about the PS3, and I'm getting tired of waiting on hold for 20 min or more just to get a different answer that still does not work. I have been reading forums and it seems like I should just be able to enable UPnP in my router and not have to open any ports.
Is that true? If not what ports should I open, are they all destination ports? Is the NAT type the lower the better and if so how do I get the best Type?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well, i can tell u that Nat type 1 and type 2 are pretty much the same thing Type 2 just means ur going through a router as type one means ur connected directly to a modem...
i'm having troubles with my UPnP too, a few months ago i spent like 3 hours messing with settings and numbers till i finally got it to work... now i'm trying to do it again.. but so far no luck, and i cant remember what i did before

D_M_  i also have the new ActionTec wireless modem/router from FiOS 30/20 here.  I was having issues connecting with COD:4 so i opened the DMZ for the dedicated IP on my PS3,  Open'd all needed ports for the COD:4 server and the PSN.  Some were TCP and UDP.   There is no UPnP opition inside the ActionTec for portforarding or static IP's so the only thing to do is open the ports for the IP the PS3 is on, the ports for the game and ports for the PSN.

PortForward.com is the best way to learn how to forward ports

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

This is their current list of Actiontec routers:
