PS3 Probably Dead

10 replies 203 views Edited Dec 11, 2012

So yesterday I got a message saying file system is corrupt and needed to be restored so I let that whole scan process happen but when it finished it just restarted the ps3 and said the same message all over again. Then later at night I went into safe mode and did restore default settings, however it never got passed the restoring default settings please wait screen. I left it on all night and now I'm trying restore file system but again It's just stuck on a screen that says "preparing ... please wait" It's been like this for half hour now. I've already had a similar problem with this ps3 which led to me re-installing a new hard drive so I think it might be that again although I remember when I had this problem before the steps on safe mode which you can try actually worked. This time around nothing is working. Any suggestions or ideas? thank you.

Now when it turns on it just skips the whole your file system is corrupted and just goes straight to you need to restore. It is moving at an incredibly slow pace.

Before actually replacing the HDD.

Try re-installing the firmware via Safe Mode and see what that does.

Yeah it's the hard drive. PS3 is making a scratching sound and when I just started it now it says "cannot start. the appropriate system storage was not found." ....... any recommendations on some good hard drives?

Hey portuk1ng007, my cousin had the same issues as you did, though it may have been a different problem, you can try to go into safe mode and restore your PS3(not just the file system), it will delete everything but it may just fix it, it did work for my cousin though i think it may have been a different problem. Well i suggest thinking about it since you would lose all your data.

I'm afraid I did that already. It's definitely the hard drive that needs to be replaced it's literally making a scratching noise while it's on.
