Just curious, the very first ps3 I had only lasted 4 years and I'm curious how long is the life span for the slim, not the super slim though.

Until it dies. "Only four years"? Look around your house. I doubt that your toaster is even four years old.

Hmm my ps3 60gb had died 5 times in 5 years. The slims last less then 3 years at tops which is absolutley shocking. So for fools that believe that the ps3s life expectancy is good and acceptable, give me a break. These machines should last 10 years for their price. If they used proper thermal paste and a proper blu-ray drive laser then it would. My ps2 has laset 10 years, it still going strong without a single problem ever and they have a very nasty dvd drive laser. I've had to open up my ps3 to fix my blu-ray drive 4 times because I know lasers don't cost $175 to repair and the other time was ylod. Also my toaster I got in march 07 that came for free with my ducted air cond, the 60gb ps3 I got was in the same month of that toaster and ducted air cond yet still works so that argument is completely flaud CaptainAlbator.

You had a 60Gb 1st generation..... one of the most unreliable if not treated with care.
And the $175 to fix covers parts, labor and shipping.
just because your PS2 lasted 10 years doesn't mean that a more complex piece of electronics will last the same or more. Just remember, anything man-made is not mean to last and is subject to flaws in its design.
You ask a question about the newer consoles reliability and then belittle that simple request with a rant.
Im not understanding if you're looking for a valid argument, or simply an answer.....
In any case you can now buy PS3's with extended warranties if you're so worried about reliability
