PS3 Harddrive Data Problem

4 replies 104 views Edited Jan 10, 2013

So today i unplugged my power cord that's connected to the PS3 and forgot that my PS3 was on, and when i turned on my PS3 again it said something about the PS3 data is corrupted and the system needs to be rebuilt, so i panicked and chose not to select it, so i searched online for a solution and all i found was leading to format the drive, instead, i entered the "Recovery Menu" and chose  "Restore File System" , and PS3 turned back on just fine but all my data was gone :smileysad:

but when i started to re-download all of my games that i purchased, it showed that there isn't enough space and the drive, and checked the System Information and showed that my drive is full but it isn't showing any data;

is there anyway to recover the data and make them useable again? or atleast the Saved Data Utility?20130110_071349.jpg

You might have to pull the hard disk out of your system and then connect it to your PC. Once connected to PC, use something like Lowvel (link) to zero-fill your hard disk, basically blanking all the corrupted data on the hard disk.

40GB is quite small. Have you considered a hard disk upgrade? Hard disks start to fail, and soon more corruption events like this will happen soon and more often. (This is what happened to my stock 80GB drive.)

if you're locked out of your data is there any risk in rebuilding the database via the recovery menu? it's scary I know but my data survived intact ;-)

Sorry, but corrupted data means the data is mangled to the point beyond the PS3's capability to repair it.

My old 80GB hard disk had issues with corrupted data, however it manages to recover the data every single time. You may just have drawn the short straw on this one. Either way, consider replacing the hard disk: You can't be too confident that your Hard Disk can keep your data.
