PS3 And the Blu-Ray laser issue

Been A fan of the ps3 since i got my first slim 3 years ago. Great sytem great games. but a system is not without its flaws. the main being the Blu Ray laser. now ive read up on this issue and its not a rare issue its more commen then i thought. its no fun only playing downloadable games when your blu ray laser burns out. How did i know this? commen symptoms. it acs like its reading but then spits it right back out. do i discovred it was the laser i made sure. if its such a commen issue why cant sony do a one time fix on it? doesnt microsoft do that with red rings? i dont care id pay for shipping they want me to shell out like 150 just to fix the laser which is kind of silly one i dont have the money for it at the moment and 2 thats almost half the price of a new system. do you think sony should have some program like this? or at least drop the price. have any of you had a ps3 laser burn out on you?
