Re: PS2 high def?

Mar 21, 2013

I use component AV cables to connect my PS2 to my 46" Sony Bravia LED LCD HD TV. It makes an enormous difference in picture quality.

Here are the ones I use:

You can also play your PS2 games running an emulator which will play games in HD and even with some small enhancements like Anti-Aliasing

Heres a sample of someone playing a PS2 game using PCSX2

RF, if properly wired up, can look better than the "Yellow Plug" cables.

I once played PS3 with an SDTV, but I actually got better quality by taking an RF Modulator, then using S-Video cables to connect to it. This eliminated the Dot Crawl effect. Then I took it a step further by isolating the RF Modulator and the TV to minimize RF noise.

Probably not worth your time, though.

Sony Sold a Silver PS2 at one point in Time that came with a Port for an HDMI Cable...

But I don't know very much about it except that it didn't sell very well...

--------------------------------

80 GB & 60 GB PS3's also Display PS2 Games in Hi-Def, too...
You can even Upscale, & Smooth out the Graphix, too...

Other then that, you can try those 5 Colored Componant Cables for HD Support on an older model PS2...
That is if PS2 Supports them, that is... ~_~

I never tried them out on a PS2, but I do know the PS2 Cable works on a PS3, so i'm sure they will work...

Have good luck, !^_^!

Btw, the PS2 MK Games have Support for 1080P 16:9 1920x1080 Resolution Screens...
I mean those Games look sweet on a 1080P TV, & they are only a PS2 Game...

But as far as other games goes... Not every PS2 Game looks awesome... Twisted Metal for instance looks horrible...

Just for the Heads Up on your HD PS2 Idea...

No they didn't.

You probably saw a photoshopped picture.

No such PS2 has ever existed

There component cables on the market, and from the startup menu, choose progressive scan.

It looks good, not great but good!!

Is that what progressive scan did? I always wondered what it did, since I was never able to use it and always questioned why I couldn't use it. It gives higher resolution?

Huh. It doesn't affect me anymore, but I guess you DO learn something every day. My PS2 had the cable that connected via the cable portion of the TV (like an antenna does), so I guess I never got to use progressive scan. Smiley Indifferent

Yeah, there's "Interlaced" (what the 'i' stands for when you see 480i, 1080i, etc...) and "Progressive" (480p, 720p, 1080p, etc...).

When it's "Interlaced" it's alternating between odd lines and even lines (from top to bottom) when displaying the picture. With "Progressive" it's putting up all the lines at the same time.

I got my first HD set back in 2002. It was a beast, and I got some monster component cables to use with my PS2. It was glorious. My Wife couldn't understand me spending $2,000 back then on a HD set, but after watching it, she couldn't stand standard TV's anymore. lol.

This video does a good job explaining how interlace and progressive scan work for those that don't know or understand it and are interested.
