The Vita Press Launch that happened in United Arab Emirates – Dubai was filled with some great details regarding the PlayStation Vita. Honoring us at the Press Launch was Sony’s General Manager of the Middle East Robert Fisser. Mitsu Hirakawa the Producer of Reality Fighters, and last but definitely not least Wipeout 2048’s Lead Designer Karl Jones and the Senior Designer Mike Humphrey.
The video here shows you the First-Party games that will be released along with the Third-Party games on their way to the system. Augmented Reality and Wide-Area Augmented Reality demonstrations are shown very clearly and have the potential to change how handhelds are played. The thing about the PS Vita is that it caters to everyone easily… If you want to just plain-ol’ play video games the way they’ve always been, you can do just that! But if you want to turn your bedroom into a battlefield or a race track, the system welcomes that and doesn’t have a single problem doing it. Here’s hoping Twisted Metal on the Vita will support these cards, unlimited maps to cause total mayhem on while driving crazy vehicles with drivers who have unmatched personalities? What's not to like?!
The social application “Near” comes pre-installed with every Vita and that’s because it’s absolutely great to have on the system. With a simple click you can find out if people near you are using a Vita themselves and you can see what games they play or have been playing, you can add them or see their profile. Buying gifts for your friends is possible with Near, this has never been on other PlayStation systems and the PS Vita is the first to have it. Near helps provide a great environment of gaming for every gamer, and making socializing that much easier. Got a friend where distance is the only barrier that stops you from sharing games with him? You can easily buy him a game and gift it to him.
This is the part 2 video where you’ll see some nice Reality Fighters demonstrations using the gyro sensor technology along with the WAAR. A nice glimpse on the Cross Platform Play between the PS Vita and the PlayStation 3 on Wipeout 2048 is shown by the great designers of it: Karl Jones & Mike Humphrey.
Here's a nice picture of the great Cross Platform capabilities of the Vita being showcased by Karl Jones and Mike Humphrey! The screen on the left is showing how Karl Jones is playing using the PS Vita, while the screen on the right is showing Mike Humphrey playing on the PlayStation 3.
“We deliver a truly augmented-reality experience using the front and rear cameras, as well as using the six-axis motion sensors” – Mitsu Hirakawa/Producer of Reality Fighters
“It’s the biggest Wipeout we’ve ever done; there are 10 brand new tracks, plenty new vehicles, a bunch of new game modes and we’re really taking advantage of all the features in the PlayStation Vita” – Mike Humphrey/Senior Designer of Wipeout 2048
Here are all 6 of the WAAR cards and how they look like
I recorded a two part hands-on video of me playing with PS Vita and some of its games, please check it out!
I'm sorry if the screen didn't look that clear, the problem is my digital camera ran out of memory so I was forced to record with an iPhone. I promise, this will never happen again; next time I'll be using a much bigger memory card/SD card.
This here is the second part of the hands-on, I hope you have enjoyed both of them!
An Interview with Mitsu Hirakawa
The questions are:
1- Can you tell us more about the Wide-Area Augmented Reality cards that you've showed us?
2- Is it possible to share augmented reality levels through facebook/other social sites, or must it be on the PS Vita?
3- How long do the batteries last on average?
4- How clear are the cameras on the PS Vita?
5- Do you make the moves for the characters in Reality Fighters, or are they pre-made?
6- When will Reality Fighters be released?
7- How will the Remote-Play be done exactly?
Me telling the Wipeout Developers/Designers to make the trophies easier this time around, they told me they will be in the PS Vita version. They were amazed at how people finish the "Beat Zico" trophy and calling it "exploiting" haha. I love these guys
“At PlayStation we’re all about playing games, and Vita is a state-of-the-art portable device with games at its very heart” – Robert Fisser GM of PS MENA (Middle East & North Africa).
