PS Vita Music App's 4000 song limit

Hello, all!
I just read this article on Kotaku:
At Least One Gamer Is Upset At Sony For A Small, But Misleading Vita Description

Earlier this year, Kotaku reader Lewis bought a PlayStation Vita. He bought two 32 GB memory cards: one for games and applications, and the other for music.
"I figured I could use it as an mp3 player as well as a gaming console," Lewis told us. "Unfortunately, that is not the case."
As Lewis soon discovered, the product description on the Vita's 32 GB memory card isn't entirely accurate. According to the box, the card can hold over 9,000 songs:
SEXPAND

But as Lewis points out, the Vita stopped him at 4,000 songs:

"Naturally, I contacted Sony customer support," Lewis said. "Talking to two different representatives, I was first told there was no limit, then when I was proven right they told me to buy another memory stick for the rest of the music. No help, no reason why there is this arbitrary limitation."
Sony's website confirms the restriction. You can only save 4,000 songs to use offline on your machine.
While it's true that technically the memory card could hold 32 gigabytes worth of music, this is a propriety piece of hardware—in other words, you can only use it on the Vita. So why does the memory card's product description say that you can save up to 9,136 songs? This might not be a huge deal to most customers, but for people like Lewis, who bought two memory cards just for this purpose, it's no small problem.
We reached out to Sony for an explanation two weeks ago, when we first heard Lewis's story. Sony has not gotten back to us.

...Can Sony give any reason for this?  Like the article says, this isn't a capacity issue: The Vita limits the number of songs you can import to 4000 items regardless of size or how much space you have on your memory stick.  I know I and many friends of mine have music collections larger than this, why the limitiation?

Just out of curiosity, if that is the image of the vita in question, you have a 16GB card in the vita not the 32GB hence why you are no where near 9,000 songs

My iPod is a 80gb classic with 3500 songs and I just can't find enough time to listen to all that music. This could get ugly with these limits on the Vita is kind of annoying. 1st its the 100 icon limit, now 4000 song limit.

I wasn't asking a question about the limits of the system I was asking how stupid for the person for saying his 32gb card when the picture clearly says 16gb.

Not like it matters, the 16GB card advertises 4,568 song space.

When a company advertises song space it is based on the length and size of each individual song. Since no two songs are equal in size and length (unless you have repeats) you will typically go under the advertised amount of songs. A way to go past the advertised amount is to compress your songs into a smaller file size (albeit quality will decrease sometimes) and you can easily go past the 4,500+ in a 16GB drive.

Yes, but as has been pointed out, there is a 4000 song limit that has nothing to do with file size.
