PS Vita HD Movies?

2 replies 827 views Edited Sep 1, 2011

Does anyone know if the PS Vita will be able to play HD movies from the PS Store. I think HD films on that screen would look badass, and before anyone replies "Oh, but the screen resolution is only 960x544 or the vita is not powerful enough to play them, ill give you an example of what i mean. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a screen res of 800x480 and a dual core processor, and it can playback 1080p HD movies. So surely the VIta will be able to do it. But will Sony incorporate the feature, that is the question?

So people, please let me know your thoughts, even if you don't know tell me if you think it will be able to!!!

When you buy movies on the PSP through the PlayStation store, they are specially formatted for that device. I'm pretty sure it will be the same way for the PS Vita, that way the file sizes will be optimized for the device...

Thanks for the reply   I would just like to point out though that when downloading a movie for the PSP on the PS Store the format resolution of the movie is 720x576 which is like a DVD you buy from a shop. That is why when viewed on the PSP(Screen res: 480x272) it looks close to a HD picture, because of the small screen. If you are right about what you are saying, which i REALLY hope you are, then the PS Vita will support 1280x720 (HD 720p) movies on it's 960x544 screen. I hope you are right man, thanks again
