PS Vita Does not support WPA2 Enterprise (WiFi)

29 replies 6996 views Edited Feb 21, 2012

Heads up to all of you college students, your Vita won't really be useful to you in and around campus.  Sony (for some reason) has decided not to support WPA2 Enterprise security protocal.  I don't own any other WiFi enabled devices that DO NOT support this, so why Sony seemed to forgo it is beyond me.  If it is supported, there is no option to manually configure all of the necessary settings to make it function correct

Hopefully this is just another case of "firmware bug".

It does at least support WPA2, right?  It's just the Enterprise component that's not supported?

If you are allowed to connect personal devices to your corporate network, consider yourself lucky.  We're not even allowed to connect ipods to our network at work.

Ah well, at least it's a game system that doesn't require a network to be functional...

It's just alarming that it wouldn't be included.  It's 2012.  How can you release a mobile gaming copetitor that doesn't do what the biggest mobile gaming product does?  (By that I mean, current iOS devices).

Ridiculous oversight.

To be fair, iOS devices are intended to be used in corporate offices, which would require Enterprise security.  There is even an Enterprise Data plan for iOS devices.

A gaming and media device?  Not so much...

Any iOS 5 device has Enterprise support, to include the iPod Touch.  I'd hardly sugest that the Touch is intended for use in corporate offices.  I'd say it's even a stretch to say that about the iPhone, which is a mass market device used the world over by any and everyone.

Even more interesting is the fact that Apple implemented Enterprise support into older iOS devices through its iOS5 upgrade.  There is simply no excuse here.  It is a widely and commonly supported security protocol that should have been supported day one.  Of course, there are a LOT of things the Vita should have done since day 1, but that's a different story.  Hopefully Sony gets their act together and "figures it out".

I think you have a good point. Even my Samsung phone has WPA2 enterprise support. It's much nicer than having to connect through a web portal and login every time.
