Re: Older 60G PS3 Freezing and Pixel Problems Right Before Freezing

Ok cool. I'm not too sure if I trust myself opening up the console, so I'll probably take it down to the shop and get it looked at. I'll try the reformat and back-up right now though.

Yea, I've got the same problem too, recently it's been fine when i fan it (flip it on its head) and leave it like that. The dots only come back every once in awhile now, as opposed to every time, about 10 minutes after startup. Nothing else has worked, i've done a full format, a full system restore and all that good stuff. Nothing besides flipping it on its head has seemed to help.

Re: Older 60G PS3 Freezing and Pixel Problems Right Before Freezing

So I have almost the identical problem. I have an 80GB PS3 Older school backwards compatible. Mine will freeze and pixalate almost imedietely after starting it, which leads me to believe it is NOT an overheating problem. I have tried to go into the safe mode menu and it will freeze there before I can reformat. I have opened it and it is NOT dusty at all. Does this sound like it would be the GPU going bad as suggested above? Because I really do not see how it can be an overheating issue as it will freeze almost right away after firing it up. The ps3 is also probably 5 years old now with only moderate use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your system could probably benefit to be reballed. I think there is a loose connection under your GPU that still allows your PS3 to work, but causes problems like you described.

I suggest you contact Endless Electronics, and see what they think...
