Use a LAN cable, problem solved, you'll always get better results with LAN. Complaining about wifi is like complaining that a laptop isn't as powerful as a pc, your just gimping yourself by using the wifi.

You DO NOT need 5Ghz frequency for WiFi. Its a logical fallacy.

If you're having WiFi issues, make sure your router is properly configured and has the latest firmware update.

Or you can run an Ethernet cable through your place... OR you buy those nifty power line Ethernet adapters that use your homes existing electrical grid as a hard line. I have one for my ps4 since it sits too far from my router and I'm not about to drill unsightly holes in my walls/roof for just one line.

For about 99% of the population, you're never going to exceed the bandwidth limits of 2.4Ghz frequency, Which is about 600megabits, and as updates continue for the 802.11N, it continues to increase.

There is already a thread that addresses this same issue, BTW. The search box ius that bug bar at the top that says Search PlayStation.... For future reference.

The big difference between the 2.4 and 5 GHz is the range. Sony needs to play it safe and give the longest possible range they can. There is not much advantage of 5 GHz over 2.4 anyway.5 GHz networks do not penetrate solid objects nearly as well as do 2.4 GHz signals, limiting their reach inside homes.

It is actually your choice whether you want to have 2.4 or 5ghz...

If you have a multi switch router capable like i do, then you can indeed run on 5ghz..

But i cannot test this because i refuse to purchase a ps4 yet.

I'll stick with my ps3 for now, untill they add a few things to the ps4...

I have a 5ghz capabile Cisco AP, and I don't believe that the PS4 connects at that frequency. BUt how could you check?

It should say under your internet connection settings. I can check and tell you for sure in a little while but I'm sure it says it in there for what frequency you are on. You dont need 5 Ghz anyway, as gray stated you will never exceed the bandwith of what 2.4 is capalbe of. Your not going to have a faster connection going from 2.4 to 5 b/c you are still capped by what your ISP speed is set at and the 2.4 signal is capable of much faster speeds then what your ISP is going to offer for a service. So 2.4 is still the best option b/c it is better for going through walls / rooms in your house and it will still give you the fastest speed avaiable from your ISP. For the fastest connection possible you should always use a hardline anyway. Right now both my PS3 / PS4 are on wifi but I'm staying w/ family until the place I'm moving to is finished but once I'm moved in there they are both going back on a hard line.

whether PS4 is capable of 5Ghz or not..

If you live in a crowded area where the channels are all clogged with multiple users, can you go from 2.4 to 5 and avoid the heavy channel traffic? Or are channels shared between 2.4 and 5Ghz?

Your system is not portable as though your driving through a neighbood picking up diffent signals. If your on your home network you will not have that many devices anyway and not enough to over load the network. Most people have a  few devices on their wifi network  its not enough to overload what it is capable of, there is no need to have to switch from 2.4 to 5 b/c of the seneiro you described.

I don't think you are understanding my question. Can someone else please answer.

Re: Next software update add 5 ghz wifi please!

I figured I would just go do the research myself.

http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=17415

5Ghz does indeed have a shorter range than the 2.4Ghz as other posters have stated.

It however is populated with more devices. Multiple devices conected to your modem, baby monitors, blue tooth devices, your home phone line, not to mention all the devices in all of your close neighbors (and in an apartment complex, for example, there are a lot of neighbors). You have to share that 2.4Ghz with all of the devices trying to communicate on the same frequency in the immediate vicinity.

You can alleviate some of that by finding the channel with the least amount of use, but again if you are in a huge usage area it's hard to find a sparsely used channel.

If the PS4 allowed usage on the 5Ghz frequency, you could avoid a lot of that interference and improve your wireless experience.

Best solution is for Sony to allow users the option to choose which frequency they run at. 2.4Ghz for those who want to put the PS4 far away from the router and have few people sharing channels. 5Ghz for those who can put their PS4 close to the router and live in an area with a lot of interference.

Yes allowing us to use the 2.4 or 5ghz frequency. Im on 5 ghz wifi now in my place, shorter range but still gives fast connection and downloads.
