New to PS3 - Having issues with HD

11 replies 13 views Edited Dec 30, 2011

My PS3 decided to stop working one day, but no YLOD

When turning on, the screen would flicker have blue, and black with the PS3 logo, and then it would freeze, or sometimes just a black screen

Since i did not see the YLOD, i seen no sense in reflowing the RSX

I went into safe mode, holding down the power button, tried everything there, and the problem wasn't solved. Issues were still there

Now, i went and purchased a new HD, assuming the HD is the problem

I do have update 4.0 on a usb, and my console is a phat

Where do i go from here?

Do i reformat the new HD on my pc before placing into the PS3? If so, what format fat or ntsc?

Or do i just place the HD in the ps3 and let it format it? If yes, do i go to the safe mode screen, and just hit update?

Thanks

Just put the new HDD in and the PS3 should do the rest. The "phats" format themselves. You can then update via USB.

First off, you say you have a "phat" PS3. They stopped making those a few years ago. Where did you get your console from? If you bought it from "some guy", then you probably got a bum PS3.

I'm confused. I have a "Phat". So what if they stopped making them there are plenty of us that still have them. Did you think you were replying to a different thread?

Well the topic says he's "new to PS3". So I was thinking maybe he bought it used. If not, then I probably read it incorrectly.

Somehow after reading the question I forgot the title. Sorry. You're right that is misleading.

I just placed the new HD in the PS3, and i just a black screen. After about 15 seconds, the system shuts off

Only way to get something on the screen is to go to safe mode

Using HDMI cable

geez...taking forever for safe mode to pop up. Green light is on

Went through the whole update process, during the update at 71%, console reboots to a blank screen. Can't even get into safe mode
